After seeing Dan Brown at the millenium park rink today, I was inspired for a ice skating ride.  Those with their own skates can ride to some of the free skating rinks in chicago together.

I'm thinking of having this on Feb. 13, Feb. 20 or Feb. 21

Let me know which date works best for those interested.

I haven't nailed down which parks in what order yet, but Parks of interest include:

Daley Bicentennial Plaza, Grant Park

Midway Plaisance Park

McKinley Park

Warren Park

The Rink at Wrigley

Millennium Park Ice Rink

Maps of skating rinks

Park district ice rinks

This sounds like fun!

The 13 would work for me, though I know that it is the day after the tweed ride and doing two rides in a single weekend can be tough and this probably has some overlapping populations.

I'll follow along to see if I can make it!

Liz - that was really fun running into you two (not literally ;-) today

we could have a chainlink 'ice criterium' ... kind of. and debate good skating helmets (ha ha ha)

those dates are all OK for me unless I leave town for presidents day...

i would be in if someone wanted to teach me how to skate!
Ha... a ice criterium!!!!

Fun idea! I'm game.

Hopefully without any crashing (or slashing).

ryan - party pooper !

BTW - I skated last sunday at the wrigley field rink (and shelled out $10 to prince richey) and

it was fun 'cuz lots of kids had all their hockey gear and two of them even practiced "fighting"

(while a dad referreed).

I wish I could join you, but I've had enough damage to my knees over the years that I really can't take the risk of ice skating anymore.

If anyone who doesn't own skates would like to buy some, I have ladies figure skates (size 10) in good condition that I'd like to sell.  Send me a message if you're interested.

Event is posted.  Bring skates and hot cocoa.

Play it again sports sells fairly inexpensive gently used skates for the cost of renting a few times.

I love having my own skates in the city, its also a great cross training with biking, since it uses completely different muscle groups and gives you over all leg strength.
