The solution is to designate a thread (this thread could serve, the title works)for the promotion of projects (commercial or otherwise) being conducted by forum members and then counting on mods to do the remaining dirty work of deciding if someones posts constitute blatant spamming. You have an art show, line of clothing, theatrical performance etc. you're involved in and want forum members to know about, post it here.

What's all the hating about? I don't know Sarah, but all this has convinced me to buy my girlfriend a new dress...

Consider this: what if 10 or 20 or 30 more posts like Sarah's started showing up weekly on the homepage of the Chainlink. How could mass-marketing non-bike-related businesses really be serving the greater bike community needs?

seems to me...
whether or not that the product is cycling conducive is irrelevant or at most, a weak after thought.
this, promotion, is an inevitability w/in any microcosm, as much as purists sentiment... and both are valid --akin to "eddie c" vent on [big brother] "etiquette" that doesn't allow criticizing "FORMERLY KNOWN AS BIKE FEDERATION".

ahh, growing pains -- sarah, you upstart you... for pimping something other than home brew.

People, allow me to clear the air. I like Sarah's local business and sincerely I hope she is successful with it.

I must retreat on any criticism I directed towards Sarah, for I can see that she posted it as a "not bike related" forum topic.

My general issue with seeing a commercial advertising post in the all-in-one front page forum still stands. Agree with me or don't, I say the the Chainlink/Ning Forums platform is a mess because it combines too many forum topics, and it poorly organizes them by combing both bike and non-bike discussion.

But I'll admit to you now that my prior call to this sore spot seems to have been unclear and positioned unfairly. Please accept my apologies for my mis-delivered message.

My intent here was to cool this matter; hope you see it that way.

Thanks for the tip, H3N3. I've started a new forum thread that I believe flushes-out my bark about the Chainlink/Ninq forum mess. I look forward to your reply.

I think we (myself included) need to reconsider some of our knee-jerk reactions here (thinking of the
"chainlink etiquette" thread from earlier this week) and take a few seconds before hitting the 'send'
button on certain replies (I am not aiming this at anyone specifically).

It's so easy to be critical and shoot some ideas down...but what does it really gain ? especially
when it spawns these long and heated threads ('discussions') that are really unnecessary ?


there are so many areas of life that can be stressful, hostile and full of angst and negativity that
it would be nice if this forum (the chainlink) can be a nice retreat from all of that.
