Are you still riding in this weather to work or school? give me a shout

I ride to work everyday and generally stick to the main thoroughfares enroute to downtown...which during the summer are jam packed with cyclists. During drizzly days like today there is a marked reduction in cyclists...probably 70-80% or more. This is a stark contrast to Portland, where this kind of weather occurs all year round and doesnt keep anybody from riding...are we snowmen people? No, were Chicagoans and we're tougher then that, but where are all my brothers and sisters? Its more important now then ever to maintain representation on the road as already drivers are getting more aggressive as they feel 'our season' is over. Give me a shout if you're still riding in this weather as sometimes its easy to feel like the few of us left are the only ones still out there...thanks for the support.

I ordered these gaiters Friday. Could have used them today. Instead, I ended up hiding inside all day. I know, wrong thread for such a confession.


I thought about cycling chaps but I know would just end up laughing at myself every time I rolled by Touché at Clark & Devon.

Man, I really got to start putting my ideas into action instead of lazily watching others do it first. I want these AND the gaiters.

I would like them better if they coverd the butt as well. Even though I have a fender, when it rains or is slushy out, my butt gets wet.

I am still riding in this weather with my kid and am a big promoter of riding year round. .. not to have a peeing contest (frozen stream--oh no! ;-), but b/c I believe that it's easiest for folks to bike when it is a habit. All too often, people lose momentum during a cold rainy stretch and then never get back in the saddle until spring. If we want biking to be taken seriously as a form of transportation, I think it's helpful for people to realize that weather doesn't *have* to keep you out of the saddle.

I salute those who are organized enough to switch between biking and other modes as the weather/their whims dictate. I am a creature of habit, and am glad biking is my main habit.

That is the right attitude. One problem that I have with Bike-winter is that it often becomes a peeing contest about who can ride in the lowest temperatures, worst snowstorm, etc.
I ride year round, but if the weather is too foul, or I am just too lazy (more likely reason), I will take the Metra. No need to put yourself at risk in an attempt to fit in.

fall and winter are the best time ride. i love the chill in the air.
