i was talking to a bar manager on clark right by the field, and he told me that the police will be removing bikes locked to meters! its in the works, and he was telling me that to pick it up you have to pay a fine..something about taking up sidewalk space...just be careful. i would hate for these pigs and the city to get our money with yet more parking tickets!

i think it is being pushed because the ball games and how packed clark gets. i argued many of the same points...he told me that they unbolt the pole, or the meter and you have to pick it up from an impound. he also mentioned fines, it was at one of the bar managers meetings.

i think it will be hard to do, they would need signs! there is never enough racks, i was thinking it is another way for the city to get our money. a new parking ticket...
Well, the city currently doesn't get any money from cyclists: I'm sure they're conniving lots of ways to do so. Which defeats the whole purpose of riding! It's freedom embodied!

Clark does get pretty crowded, I can almost understand where they're coming from...but maybe they should consider expanding the sidewalk and removing car parking. Or turning it into a ped mall...then that area would really get crazy.
This is absolutely ridiculous. Hell, the cubs fans take up an awful lot of bike lane space when I am riding. Maybe we should fine them for standing there like a bunch of brainless pidgeons.

(no offense to Cubs fans...I live in Wrigley and am working on my way out)
I have to attend a Cubs game for work tomorrow and was planning to ride over...if I avoid locking to meters, am I going to find my bike waiting when I am out of the game?!!?
Wow, I cant believe I may have to pay to park my bike...didnt think I would see the day that happened!

Think I can put that on my expense report?!?!

;)

I rode my bike by Wrigley the other day (non-game). I thought I saw a sign for bike parking/check just outside the Clark/Addison intersection. Perhaps you can check your bike there? I'm guessing there's a premium for it.
Does anyone have any experience with the bike valet at Wrigley? Would you trust them to watch over your nice bike?
Eh. I though I'd revive an old thread rather than start a new one.
I shot an email to the Bike Program Staff at CDOT. I'll let you know what the response is. This smells like Urban Legend to me.
I've used it a few times with no problems.

I've used the valet at Wrigley about 6 times. No problems. It's secure and the people running the show give you a ticket stub to claim your bike after the game. I was pretty worried the first few times I did it, but I've never had a problem.

That said-- I wouldn't leave a Litespeed or something really fancy.

Re the OT: I was in Wrigleyville several weeks ago and could not find anywhere to park... the proper bike racks were taken, and all the street signs were too loosely bolted for me to feel safe. I did not see any meters. They may have been replaced by the pay boxes already.
The bike valet service at Wrigley is very safe and very cool. I would leave a custom titanium bike there, no problem at all. Also, beware sucker poles around Wrigley—I'd guess that a majority of poles within a couple of blocks of the park are set up so they can be twisted out.
