URGENT: Public School Bike Education Legislation (for 9 April)

The following notice is posted on the Chicago Family Biking Facebook site:

CALL TO ACTION:
The Bike Walk Education in Schools Act (HB4799) is expected to be heard in committee in Springfield next week (4/10). The bill clarifies the existing traffic safety K-8 school curriculum requirement to specifically include biking and walking safety.

Illinois crash data shows nearly five children are hit by drivers every day while walking or biking within one block of a school. Chicago Family Biking feels that more instruction on traffic safety is paramount for keeping kids safe and encouraging more active commutes to school.

WE NEED YOUR HELP.
Please take 2 MINS to complete the slip and show your support by the end of the day on Monday, 4/9! The more slips that go in and show support (proponent) of this bill the better chances it has of passing.

HOW TO SUBMIT A WITNESS SLIP:
1. Visit: http://my.ilga.gov/WitnessSlip/Create/110124…
2. If you own a business use your business name in the needed sections too. If you do not have a business feel free to use Chicago Family Biking Member.
3. Make sure to mark proponent and record of appearance only.
