Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

I put in the request, but their support group reported that the City of Chicago has not made the request type available through the open 311 endpoint for Chicago 311. The only request types supported at this point are:“Abandoned Vehicle”, “Alley Light Out”, “Building Violation”, “Graffiti Removal”, “Pavement Cave-In Survey”, “Pothole in Street”, “Restaurant Complaint”, “Rodent Baiting / Rat Complaint”, “Sanitation Code Violation”, “Street Cut Complaints”, “Street Light Out”, “Traffic Signal Out”, “Tree Debris”.

So, where do we go from here?

I'd use “Rodent Baiting / Rat Complaint” for now. :-)

Same reply I received.

It's up to the city to allow these types of requests through open 311.

I'm not sure who would be a good contact at the city.

Sadly the City of Chicago hasn't made the new reporting options available via "Open 311"

If there's anyone at the City that can make the new bike lane options available via the "Open 311" standard, please make it happen.

I'd suggest people contact the city about adding it to the open 311 standard.

Here is the response I received from SeeClickFix:

"

Hey Tom,

Our team looked into this and unfortunately the City of Chicago has not made that service request type available via the open 311 endpoint for Chicago 311.

The only SR types available on 311 are:

“Abandoned Vehicle”
“Alley Light Out”
“Building Violation”
“Graffiti Removal”
“Pavement Cave-In Survey”
“Pothole in Street”
“Restaurant Complaint”
“Rodent Baiting / Rat Complaint”
“Sanitation Code Violation”
“Street Cut Complaints”
“Street Light Out”
“Traffic Signal Out”
“Tree Debris”

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please let me know if you need anything else.

Thank you.

Regards,

Amanda"

But those things are all things that need fixing, while a vehicle driving in the bike lane is going to move sooner or later. If it's abandoned, you can report it as an abandoned vehicle. It seems a different category. Those are things the city wants to know about so it can come take care of them. Be realistic.

Did you file a 311 report?

Yup, always do, and include the url of the picture I take too. I also fax the picture to the local police district and alderman/alderwoman offices.

Hey all-

The 311 code is active, but only for calling 311 and online. I believe SeeClickFix is being updated and no new codes are getting added.

It's a gorgeous day, so everyone needs to get their car washed.

The line for 4558 N. Elston.

And the line for 4454 N. Elston.

I also ride by the River West car wash on Milwaukee south of Grand and notice that they usually have the line up against the curb, instead of in the bike lane... trying to nudge Laurino's office to get these two places to do something similar.
