Over the years Matt M's organized a number of trips from Chicago over to Madison. This year; tragedy! Matt can't manage it. I've done the last two trips and am familiar with the route and the…Continue

I'm headed to Pittsburgh on Sunday to bike down to Washington.  Sadly the second half of the trip is through the C&O Canal National Park, and it's closed. The owners of various B&Bs where I'm…Continue

Tricolor replied to Bob Kastigar's discussion Lakefront Trail Turned Into ‘Piles Of Asphalt’ In Places After Weekend Storm
"My favorite memory from that day. I'd ridden through there maybe fifteen minutes earlier but was much luckier. Going home that night Lake Shore Drive was closed, let alone the path. Riding into the wind north of Fullerton in the dark was its…"

Tricolor replied to Bob Kastigar's discussion Lakefront Trail Turned Into ‘Piles Of Asphalt’ In Places After Weekend Storm
"Asphalt is more flexible, has more traction and is much easier to replace. Look in some places and you'll see cobblestones under the asphalt/concrete that first paved the waterfront in the late 19th century."

Tricolor replied to Bob Kastigar's discussion Lakefront Trail Turned Into ‘Piles Of Asphalt’ In Places After Weekend Storm
"Not as bad as the storm on Halloween 2014 but with winter here there's no time to fix it for a while. The trail north of Oak Street Beach was torn up or buried in sand all the way to Fullerton. That was when work had just started on the…"

Tricolor replied to in it to win it 8.0 mi's discussion I rode today. Did you?
"I went through. And got some splash on the curve that soaked my feet. The rest of the run south to the flyover was just as bad but you could use the elevated path next to Lake Shore Drive for most of it. As much as I hate riding in traffic in the…"

"The morning rain chased most people away today. Lucky for me I usually leave so late it had stopped. The wind was kind of a pain, though."

Tricolor replied to Bob Kastigar's discussion Navy Pier Flyover to close Tuesday 9/3 for about a month

Yes sir, it's that time of year!  We have a friend in common who is set on coming along, so I'm content that I've at least got one companion.  I've done some route cleaning, upgraded my bags, gear, and tent, switched to solar power, made arrangements which should make the ride a bit cheaper, backed up the route to my phone, bought new tires, etc...  I'm going to stay in west Madison an extra day, so I won't be around to shepherd anyone home.  Also, all the bridges along the Glacial Drumlin have been completed, so bring your trail pass or you'll be reminded to get one!
