Perimeter Ride 2012 Planning Group

The Perimeter Ride has been going for a solid decade and is an important first century for a lot of people who might not try such a thing without the CTA bail-out option. Also, it's awesome! Nature trails, oddball sights along the way, interesting food options and an easy pace for the moderately hardcore.

The venerable John Greenfield has been running it all these years, but he wants to step away and focus on developing new rides which will surely be fantastic.  Stay tuned for those, he's got some interesting ideas up his sleeve.

So--folks who love the Perimeter Ride, let's keep it going!  Weigh in here and we'll hammer down the details and post it as an event.

Here's a quick survey link for date voting, may be the easiest way to tally.  Let me know if I missed a discussed date.

Best choose a date and who can come, can come.  Prefer earlier rather than later due to weather and daylight.

I'll just go ahead and register my vote for the eighth, if it's doable.  Or david, you've got pull with marauders, convince them to switch to the 29th because of riotfest.  If it's underground and well, at midnight, not much need to care about daylight minutes... :)

Ah, I thought riot fest was the weekend of the 8th, I also have a 2-day pass, so that's out.

What about Sept. 8th?? Still early in the year, labor day is the weekend before and I don't see much conflicting?

Going once...
Going twice...

Yep the 15th is Riot Fest and I have passes for that... Not sure if marauders is that day as well or if it will get pushed back to 22nd due to Riot Fest. Also I believe Marauders September ride is the ever popular Underground Ride. Don't want to conflict with that...

Which leaves us back to the 29th of September

I don't think the 15th works 'cause'a Riotfest.  Chuck's got a three-day pass for the whole thing, so no ride for him that weekend.

I think a perimeter start point is a great idea Chuck, save the sometimes long trek to the lake and save some time.   Buckingham is central enough that every one can get there.  Rolling by 9am and starting on the perimeter should mean an earlier end time.

I know other years we've stopped at Pullman and the guard said if we call in advance they'd open for us.  It may be a good idea to give any planned stops a call, letting them know we're coming and a projected window.  It could also reduce lunch wait times if the places we stop by are prepared for a sudden crowd.

Personally I would suggest the 15th over the 22nd, even though its mauraders, September temp is hard to predict, and daylight hours dwindle quickly.  I think other years its also been held on a  Marauders night, while I know regulars don't want to miss it....

15th: Sunrise: 6:31am Sunset: 7:01pm

22nd: Sunrise: 6:38am Sunset: 6:49pm
