First of all, SteveI--THANK YOU for your terrific contribution.  I'm still holding your uncashed check as I've been afraid to cash it, as "Look Chicago" is still an unofficial group rather than an official incorporated charity.  I tried setting up a Look Chicago bank account twice and got refused by a bank & a credit union.  Each time I've researched setting us up as a 501c3 I run into all kinds of registration fees and what not--there must be a way to set up the group properly without spending what we have on fees?  Thanks Kevin & Lisa for your guidance and help: legal and corporate matters are outside my experience.  I haven't talked to the Break the Gridlock folks directly, but last I heard there were some complications with us funneling funds through them.

Look Chicago is identified as a Member Organization of Break the Gridlock. I'm unsure if they signed a fiscal agency agreement, but I'll find out.

Hi all - thanks for the kind words - no tax deduction was expected so if you would like me to pay a company directly for flyers, or other promotional material I could do that too.  Just don't ask me to fill potholes!

Isn't Look Chicago part of Break the Gridlock?  Have you looked into using it as a fiscal agent to handle money and get the tax deduction to donors?

Just a reminder that I'm still in possession of $100 that was generously contributed by Steven K Irwin (709 61st St, Des Moines, IA 50312-1227).  Suggestions for putting the money to good use are welcome--more flyer cards, a booth banner, Look spoke cards or bike stickers or something we haven't yet considered?  Also, any experienced legal help in cheaply getting Look Chicago incorporated as an official 501c3 charity would be greatly appreciated, so we can properly get tax credits to Mr. Irwin, Brendan K. and other generous contributors.  I've been trying to learn how to do this but it seems beyond me--it seems you need to register with the state, then the federal government/IRS.  I tried opening an account in the Look Chicago name both at my credit union and at Citibank to deposit a check, and neither would do so until we incorporated as a "dba" (doing business as).  Help?

Two other outreach ideas:

1. Breweries - we need to figure out if we can get coasters in breweries, and then design some rad ones. If anyone is interested in helping to work on this, let me know!

2. Auto shops - Not sure if this is doable, but I'd love to see if we could get the dooring flyers in community areas in auto shops. If anyone is willing to explore this idea, let me know!

Great find, Bedno!

Some notes on upcoming dates:

Montrose Cyclocross - December 7th. We weren't able to finalize a booth but it could be good to have some flyering around there. Is anyone available to attend?

Chicago Winter Bike Swap - January 18th. Aaron & I can be there to work the booth. Anyone else interested? If so, let me know and we can coordinate travel closer to the date.

Chicagoland bike swap - word on the street is something will happen on February 15th. I'd LOVE for us to have a presence here. Would anyone be available to work a booth?

Chicago auto show - February 16th - we could flyer in the parking lot
