The Chainlink

Hey all,

We talked about this at our first meeting, but I dont remember what the responses were.

Does anyone have a contact for where we can get our hands on some literature?

I would like to organize our first promotional event and am looking to get some of the following:

* Brochures

* Fliers

* Stickers

* Etc

I am thinking we can organize an event where we post it on the calendar and have it open to anyone who wants to attend.

We meet at a specific place and then spend an hour putting fliers under windshield wipers on a stretch of parallel parking and also stand on the nearest corners and hand out more info to passing cyclists.  The Six Corners of Damen, North and Milwaukee would be a great place to start this, but we could also pick other locals in the city where we would have a high amount of car, ped and bike traffic.

If anyone has a printing contact we could use this too and everyone pitch in $2-3 for a run of print.  With this option we could add Jerry's ideas on what to do if in a dooring crash and additional info.

Thanks!

Aaron

This is a copy of the message I just send to Ald. Proco Joe Moreno via Facebook:

I am a resident of the ward and a member of a group working to raise awareness of dooring incidents like the recent one involving bicyclist, Dustin Valenta. Our group, LOOK! Chicago will engage in a "Safety Blitz" this Saturday, March 2nd, from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. around North, Damen and Milwaukee avenues. This event, the first of what we hope will be many, will consistent of members handing out flyers to the public which highlight the dangers car doors pose to cyclists, and how both drivers and bicyclists can work to reduce the number of dooring incidents. We would appreciate it if your office could help us publicize this event by posting on your Facebook page, website and by notifying the public in any other way you feel is appropriate.

You can learn more about Saturday's event by checking out our listing on The Chainlink website. (See below).

Thank you for your consideration.
