Hey Goose Island has a nice room that is pretty quiet (actually a few but some are too big for our group. So that should work out pretty nice.
I got a note back from Rep Ann Williams, noncommittal but she knows we are out there and 'supports' bike issues since she has a fairly strong bike constituency. If we need support from the State Congress level I believe she would be helpful...

OOHHH! By the way do we have a place for the Feb 6th meet?
Jeff
I plan on bringing a copy of the letter I sent to Senator Cullerton, Rep Williams and Rep Feigenholtz to the meeting and if we have a finalized poster and talking points sketch I'll make a way to communicate with my alderperson (Laurino). I don't wanna get in too deep at the city level until we get all our ducks in a row since when the city people start talkin' we need them all using the same language to make the biggest 'splash'.

Minor backlash (press and House Speaker call it "asinine") to anti-dooring law in VA: http://www.theatlanticcities.com/commute/2013/01/virginia-thinks-dr...
Aaaargggh, just flat dern overslept this morning and missed the chance to meet with the State Congresspeople. I will drop some e-mail to them to maintain (establish) contact just to assure we have lines of communication. To these state level officials even tho they may not directly be players in the dooring campaign.

Who would be willing to be available for media or bike-organization related questions?
We may have one opportunity in the near future, plus it doesn't hurt to have people ready just in case we go big! The more people the merrier. Once we get a list, I'd like to coordinate a short meeting for us to review some media training tidbits to be prepared.
Hi all - some good updates! We have opportunities to help spread the word on two additional yet related initiatives in the near future. We'll give these updates at the next meeting!
CH-CH-CHanges...the politicos moved the coffee klache to the other end of the block. Now at Mystic Celt in the backroom. Same hours 10-11:30AM but at 3443 N Southport...a block north of Roscoe.

Re: post to Rep Ann Williams
Hi there, and thanks for your note. I am pleased to see that the Mayor has been making major strides on the issue and continues to prioritize bicycle safety. I am familiar with the group Active Transportation Alliance, who is active on these issues as well, and works with government on all levels to ensure safety on the roads for all users.
Thanks much!
Ann

Subject: Safety on our roads
Dear Rep Williams,
Recently the issue of safety on our roads resurfaced when a cyclist was 'doored' driving him into traffic and under the wheels of a truck. This act of poor judgement and reckless behavior by a driver cost a young man his life, despite his having followed all the rules and regulations imposed on pedallers on our streets. He was in a bike lane when the car door swung into his path.
A cyclist group has been formed to educate and enlighten drivers, riders and pedestrians as to the dangers of lapses of attention, and cavaleir behavior that is all to common on our streets.
This group "LOOK" has been trying to stir the pot and bring attention to this issue. From a web site, lookchicago.org, to the start of establishing lines of communication for elected officials and the regulatory authorities that can help get the spotlight on this issue.
If your office has any insight into directions and people we should be in contact with I would appreciate such information since we are driven by our desire to improve our riding safety but lack the knowledge of the ins and outs of the govcernmental and regulatory system we will be dealing with.
From signage to educational access and exposure in media, business and schools we are starting from scratch trying to learn the inroads to garner attention and recognition for this serious issue that is a hurdle for safe cycling in our urban areas.
Thank you for any assistance and information you may be able to offer for moving this into a more visible venue.
I will try to make your 'coffee' on the 26th to get an insight for state level invovlment's value in our strides for better cycling safety in our area.
