Congratulations to Critical Mass June 2017 for showing Chicago how to deal with gun-wielding assholes

I've just updated the route/flyer archive, first time in over a year.  Added six new items, four of them masses, plus ride of silence and the Klingenberg Memorial ride.

Starting out without a map, this month was pretty close to a disaster!  I gave up and bailed at Cermak and Damen, went north on Damen and I was passed by with many riders who looked as if they, too, were bailing out from the ride.

Near the start we went down State Street from Jackson to Roosevelt, a distance of over a mile.  Then on Roosevelt we went west to Halsted, again a distance of over a mile.  What happened to the suggested guideline of riding no more than 1/4 to 1/2 a mile and making a turn?  This slows down the mass, and keeps the rider together.

When crossing the bridges over the expressway and the river along Roosevelt the mass got badly splintered.  Going uphill slows you down but going downhill on the other side speeds you up.  Those in the front didn't seem to be aware of this: as they sped up, the rest of the riders behind them were slowing down quite a bit and the mass was broken.  At several intersection cars went thru, further splitting up the mass.  What happened to the other suggested guideline of stopping at a light and waiting two or three cycles of the light to allow for a 'mass up' with all on the ride?

The only way to "mass up" is for the front to slow down.  The rear can't speed up to catch up.

Maybe it improved when the ride went south on Damen at Cermak.  I hope so but I didn't stick around to see it.  I hope somebody comes up with a map for next month.

Anyone got specific wants for this Friday? Here's a dozen past June routes for inspiration: http://bedno.com/find/photos/ccmjune

Looking at history, June's had some great ones. Steven Lane's Tortoise and Hare, Olatunji Oboi Reed Hidden Jewels, my Pride Ride, some Spencer Thayer ones, some Howard ones, some Payton Chung taking both the drive and the Ike...
