Pick up Ride Sunday, 11/8/09. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Clocktower. Ride up to Highland Park and back. Not fast. Eat lunch up there. Yada Yada.

I stand corrected.

Yes, they have taken out the tracks, both north and south of Bryn Mawr. However, DON'T ride on it unless you have some really good mountain bike tires. What's left are large stones, and they're sharp. I recently penetrated a hybrid bike tire that even had a Mr. Tuffy tire liner on it.

It ain't "a nice dirt path yet!

The good news is that it ought to be reasonably easy to complete. All that's need is added sand followed by asphalt on top.

Bob,

They've actually taken out those tracks recently. I think it's just a nice dirt path now. Gonna have to take the tank over there sometime and explore.

The Saugansh Trail is paved the whole distance. It runs between Bryn Mawr and Devon, and has two entrance/exits in between, both paved.

If you look at the map you'll see additional railroad tracks, which have had to rails removed. DON'T ride on these! They're not paved and the rock is very coarse; it'll damage bike tires.

Can you describe the Saugansh Trail surface a little more? Is it paved, gravel, dirt, etc? Just trying to figure out bike appropriateness...

THIS Sunday, Oct 4th at 10:00 AM

Starts at Bryn Mawr (5600 North) and Kostner (4400 West). Map: http://tinyurl.com/mqgu5c

Chicago's newest bike path, the Saugansh Trail, Valley Line Multi-Use Trail Project Completed Crews have completed work on the Valley Line Trail project. The one mile long, multi-use trail was constructed on a former railroad embankment located just east of Kostner Avenue between Bryn Mawr Avenue and Devon Avenue in the Sauganash community.

Also known as "Marge's Mile" after Alderman Margaret Laurino, 39th Ward, who will lead the ride and provide historical notes of interest about the surrounding neighborhood.

More information: http://www.neiu.edu/~BikeNEIU/Ward39.html

So far, no rain scheuduled, bit just in case check the Alderman's web site, http://www.aldermanlaurino.com/

Total distance, probably less than 5 miles, and very moderate speed, because Ald. Laurino isn't a regular bike rider.

Who wants to ride Sunday, 9/27? Maybe just a ride up the lake to Highland Park and back.

I know this is last minute, but a few of us are doing 30+ miles at a moderate, non-training pace: meeting up around 930 in the Gold Coast; text me if interested or call tomorrow: 630-962-8489
