We've already put out a little promotion that next month we would ride in Lincoln Square, so I think we should stick to that. It would be really good to start picking locations for future rides so we can list them in all our promotions.

I'm going to start a discussion in this group called "vote for May ride location". Please pitch a location there or vote for someone else's. I'll probably toss my vote toward the Rogers Park location if someone makes a concrete proposal for a ride there.

If this discussion based voting system seems like it works we can start additional discussions for each successive month.

I think Palmer square is a great location and we should use it at least one if not a couple more times this year. Hopefully others will vote for it too.

We are game for tomorrow, hopefully the weather will not be too bad.

After the planning meeting I did make a post for the Kidical Mass ride promoting it on my blogsite and sent it out as email to my 450+ mailing list (which I unfortunately don't have sorted for families; so many those recipients don't have kids) But I do apologize for not coming through with posters for local bike shops and cafes...That is something I can often do, but I didn't have access to the printer I was hoping to use this past week. Now with this weather, it seems it may be a moot point. Unfortunately I wasn't able to change my kids 2 dentist & 1 orthodontist appointments from tomorrow, so I'm out. BUT because of this I'm even more committed to riding/supporting/promoting the next ride (with better weather we hope!).

Todd, Karen & who ever gets out there tomorrow, have fun regardless! I look forward to participating full in the next month!

Q: If the weather prevents this one tomorrow do we remount the same route for next month? I'd be game...but lets see how tomorrow goes...
Happy ride! The weatherman isn't always right...

Karen, I think you are right. The forecast wouldn't look too bad in the middle of February but after a few days of 60s... yuck. I looked at a bunch of forecasts to find the one I liked best and I'm voting for light snow and moderate wind.

As for promotion, Michael Burton did the Momentum article and one other publication. Justyna Frank did flyers of which I got a handful to post. I'm not sure where the rest went. I made some forum posts and online calendar listings and one of the women from Bike Boulevards Now did a Facebook page. I spoke with Andrew Bedno on Wednesday and he is going to provide me his list of promotion methods for the WNBR rides which I will start utilizing for next month's ride. Any other suggestions or assistance in promoting the rides would be great.

I'll be riding if anyone wants to ride. Back when the idea was pitched to have a ride on this date I thought it was too early. But if we held it yesterday or the day before it would have been great. Still I'm glad for the trial run and we now have another month to work on publicizing the next ride.

If the weather is as expected, even the die-hard biking families that I know are not going to come. I will be there with my decorations regardless, but you're right, Todd, the forecast is bleak.

That stretch of sidewalk that you mentioned at North and Sacramento is really tough to turn at with my big orange bike and I think it would be hard to lead a mass through. I originally suggested that we get the mass onto the outer drive of Sacramento and take a lane in order to avoid that sidewalk turn (lane could be taken at Wabansia) but anyway, the point is moot if turn-out is low.

By the way, locals pointed out that the ride has not been well advertised. I sent out e-mails to my playgroup and saw mention of it in Momentum; what other efforts have been made? See you tomorrow rain or snow -- can we bail if it's only my two baby kids?

After a week of increasingly delightful weather, it appears that ends tonight. Tomorrow is the first day of spring but it looks like it will be another day of bike winter.

I will still be out there for the ride, but the expectation is that it will be cold, windy, rainy and might even be snowing. So I expect a small turnout.

But next month the weather will undoubtedly be better!

I test rode the various routes between Palmer Square and Humboldt Park.

Outbound I suggest the inner drive of the Humboldt boulevard. One issue is at North avenue to cross the intersection we will need to ride on the sidewalk for about 25 feet to get to the crosswalk by the main drive. Normally I avoid riding on sidewalks, but one can only assume that the city planners intended this little bit of sidewalk to be used by cyclists. It would be nice if they striped it or put up markings or signage to show this intended use.
I'm going to suggest(and likely implement) that the Bike Boulevards Now website start a page for important bicycling infrastructure requests and put this corner on the list.

On the return route, Albany is excellent. The pavement is smooth and there are no speed bumps all the way to Palmer Square. It's also a pleasant, calm and scenic neighborhood street.

I don't remember Andersonville getting proposed. I live in Aville, but I expected to help Rogers Park (and would suggested other far northside efforts go there) because my feeling is RP has high kid density. Though valid thought, NSCM's spot (Lincoln Statue near Senn) could be a good Kidical Mass point, then ride around those back neighborhood streets...

Liz and Andrew,

I have an ideal! Why not we incorporate Anderson ville and Rodgers Park in one. I do believe that it will be easier for me with everything else going on.

I will bring my video gear if weather is fair, Todd.
