A long, long time ago there used to be a tradition of "CCM happy hours" on second Fridays. They were a good opportunity for folks to get drawn into planning and plotting.

Comment by H3N3: but we've had a trend of top-down "control" of the ride that IMO has been increasingly squelching new and broader involvement.

There seems to be an absence of some of the "old timers" of a few years ago. I don't know their names and I don't think I'd recognize them if they showed up again. The absence does seem to have been filled by those who don't quite understand the spirit of the Critical Mass. Or maybe the spirit is changing.

Let's just go for a bike ride.

Well if people really think that CCM is a city supported and lead ride, that is most likely the fault of the website and the participants spreading info word of mouth, not entirely the fault of map makers.

Comment by H3N3: Yes, I was hoping we'd have a return to multiple options, and choice on the part of the people who come to the ride, rather than having everything predetermined by a small group of heavy internet users.

But we always have had, and still do have that option. If the route selected is south and I find us riding west, then when the group turns left (south) I turn right (north) instead and anyone who wants is free to follow me.

Or somebody else does it and I follow them.

It's much more then that Spencer.

Are you not aware that we are fighting the power?

Every mass that is not perfect is a win for the corporations and oil companies.

Critical Mass is serious business.

13-1/2 according to Google Maps

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid...

Also, it looks to me like the original 2003 route had a couple of wrong-way on a one-way street according to Google Maps. Maybe these were added in the seven years.
