Bob--that's totally my retirement plan!

Spencer, are you saying that a family that is 'down on their luck' is justified to break into a house and occupy it?

Jason, come to the next Full Moon and we'll talk about the differences of all these things.

Howard, it kinda represents both sides but in the negative side the consequences are severe and talk about corruption and extortion while the positives are warnings to teenagers or ignoring a speeding ticket. I may actually edit the article to include the history of Sheriffs in the United States. There have been some pretty heroic examples of Sheriffs standing up against the Federal authorities due to unjust laws. Also on the other side however are the immigrant camps built by Joe Arpaio. Like I said. I don't actually have a solid opinion on this topic.

Also, comparing a family who is down on their luck because of a financial collapse (mostly caused by fraud by the banks) and people who broke into a house and now illegally occupy it is absurd.

I wrote a bunch of stuff but it's tiresome. @Jason, my opinion on how the police should act has nothing to do with anything regarding a Sheriffs role in Illinois. The fact of the matter is that Sheriffs are the only officers who can selectively enforce laws by the very nature of their office. If you don't like it well that's too bad. I don't know how I feel about it either.

First, I forgot the smiley after my last comment to Spencer. Apologies.

Thanks for being a little more objective, David. The robosigning issue was overblown by the media (they just love to manipulate for ratings!). It was simply a matter of small errors in the red tape system. It didn't change much for anyone going into foreclosure, and the red tape errors have been corrected. I do not agree with your second point. The former owners often leave, knowing they cannot afford their current residence, and moving is inevitable. The law and rogue sheriffs refusing to turn the property over is what leaves them open for squatters. As far as getting them out, everything has been tried over the last two years. The law is insane how much it favors the "tenants". Meanwhile the properties get trashed, association dues are left to burden neighbors, and worse things like my situation...

So anyway... about that critical mass... Lot's of bikes with that thing, eh?

Ha!  Get a room, you two.

Sometimes politicians accidentally do good while seeking political gain.  The holdup on processing foreclosures came on the heels of reports of potential fraud and denial of due process in the foreclosure machine--robosigning and so forth.

Secondly--slowing down the foreclosure machine means more families stay in their homes and make a try to straighten the situation out, rather than leaving a vacant property for squatters.

Thirdly--there are squatters and there are squatters.  A bunch of junkies is not so good on your block.  An organized movement to take back vacant property is a different matter.  Anarchism is not the same as lawlessness.

Finally--get a room, you two!  ;-)

Sorry, but Howard (and his link) is right. Spencer I think you are blinded by your thoughts on this matter. I seem to remember you having a very different view of selective enforcement when you were speaking of the eavesdropping law... Perhaps you will see past your mental restraints one day...
