I think it is a flock...has a purple flower when it blooms, but it does spread so be careful.  I am not 100% sure though.

and the birds dont get used to that, eh?  i wish there was a slightly more aesthetic approach, but i think this might work well over the rectangular bed. it wouldnt work in other parts of the our garden.

thanks for sharing!

Here are 2 pix, if I can figure out how to attach them. Looks like my friend, Ken, strung twine above the garden, then tied strips of reflective mylar balloon (or something similar) to the twine. As the foil strips blow in the breeze, they apparently scare the birds away. So far, anyway, the birds haven't eaten his plants (and they were doing so before he put in the deterrent). Hey all- I'm donating my garden to the community.  If you know anyone near Hermitage/Ainslie (4800 N/1700 W) who would like a plot of garden to grow veggies send them my way!

I have a garden but no time to actually take care of it.

A friend used reflective foil (not tin foil--more like party decorations) in his vegetable garden and, so far, it's working well. His neighbor, an elderly Chinese immigrant, suggested it. I can send you a pic, Iggi, if you want to see how he did it. He stretched it out parallel to the ground instead of vertical . . . for more visual impact, I assume.

Decoys may work for a while, but as soon as a single bird goes into feast without getting eaten the rest of birds will join in.

A physical barrier such as chicken wire or bird netting will be your best bet.  A pet, such as a dog or a cat that spends a lot of time in the garden may also help.  We used to get very low yields from our grapes until we started covering them with bird netting.  Beware though the inexpensive thin plastic netting has a tendency to tangle on anything and everything and is quite easy to tear.  The best bet is to use a frame (wood, conduit, coarse wire fencing, etc.) to keep netting out of  contact with your plants.

Usually Ace Hardware carries them. I've had "limited" success. But you really need to move them every few days... The birds catch on.

so...do owl decoys work?  we have a problem with birds getting to our strawberries before we do. im afraid the raspberries will be next once they start coming up. if they do work, where does one get one? other than interwebs.
