Holly, who is tackling her first bike winter, stayed in the saddle this week. Yay, Holly! Feel free to give her some encouragement by leaving comments on her blog post: http://bikewinter.org/node/108

Me. To work. One mile.
Gotta say today was beautiful.
I much prefer cold and crisp to any brand of wetness.

Anyone biking tomorrow? Should be fairly chilly in the morning. I'm hoping my scuba diving gloves cut the wind significantly.

thanks for the tips. especially construction gear!! i just picked up some double-lined ragg wool gloves at menards for $4.99. there was a jacket i was eyeing too - i'm going to be the littlest lumberjack ever.

Delete Comment Am psyching myself up to complete the full Bike Winter ride schedule, but I can't seem to find the Bike Winter 2010-2011 rides? I thought I'd seen a ride posted for Dec 11, but now can't find it. Is it me or have rides not been posted yet? Nothing on the official bikewinter.org site either... hmmmmmm.

Unfortunately there is no "bike winter calendar" at the moment.
We're waiting on technical help and had hoped to have it ready by tomorrow. You'll hear about it when it's ready for action.

Ironika--Nothing wrong with being slow...
I love Smartwool products. Their socks are my favorites. I also like wool base layers. I have Smartwool long underwear & a pair of tights on order.

If you're looking for good gift suggestions and don't have a nice light, that's something you'll need.

One tip I recently picked up from a friend was to look at cross country skiing, snowboarding, and running gear. Often times, these winter sports reach a wider audience and the gear is a little less expensive than things targeted strictly for cycling.

I still need to solve my boot problem...the ones I have are probably too tight. (Good to buy a size up in boots and gloves so that your circulation can flow and you're not being squeezed.)

If anything I buy seems worthy of a review, I'll definitely post it on the blog.

I'm going to add a Kidical Mass ride (Santa and Dreidel edition!) for December 11th with a bikewinter tag. Keep your peepers peeped. Dressing up and merriment encouraged!

thanks, holly! i'm really trying to keep my bike out as long as possible. i'm such a slow, bad rider that i don't want to go dormant for a ton of months.

i LOVE the jacket you posted. are there any recs for things i might look into for colder weather riding? with xmukkah around the corner - now's the time. i made my panniers with gold glitter vinyl, so they're waterproof and always carry a shower cap for my seat.

my bern helmet with the snap-in wool flaps. works really really well.

Ironika--No--that was a big deal. It was windy, cold, and wet! You should be proud. This is the first time I've NOT driven the car on a day like today. I'd typically have been in my car the minute I smelled rain not to mention wind and the bracing temps. Let's do it!
