The Chainlink

Anyone know a good wheelbuilder on the northside or in near north burbs.  even downtown could work.

My brother rides 15 miles rt to work.  he was breaking spokes a lot so I had yellow jersey in madison build him a wheel.  lasted 2 years but  spokes are starting to break again. not sure what special abuse he uses to accomplish this bc it's a 40 spoke hub and dyad rim but it's time for a rebuild.  anyone know a good builder?

Thanks!

Well, there's me...

But really any good shop can do it for you.

In What part of town are you Dug?

He noticed 5 broken spokes a couple weeks ago. Took it to nearly new to have them replaced. Noticed 3 broken today. They told him to downshift more they and replaced them. I think he's already spent enough there that he could have paid for a rebuild. And it's just a matter of time until more need replacing.

A wheel is dead after 3 broken spokes in my opinion; with 5 broken spokes they should have told him it was time for a new wheel.  Come into Johnny Sprockets and I can take a look at it and see what we can do for him.

You're at Johnny Sprockets now?  Which one?

Mostly the south shop but I am in andersonville some days.

I've used the Pony Shop in Evanston a few times (close to Dempster purple line stop). They do excellent work. Been very satisfied with the quality of their wheels.

There is PSIMet, I have a good friend who got some wheels built by him and love them.  Plus he is well known in there area and a great guy.  Had a chance to bounce questions off him at a swap meet a few months back.

PSIMet

Plus he is in Elgin, so NW burbs.
