Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)
My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.
Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane
With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming
#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)
#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.
We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

I have some nice business card sized things that I think active trans put out. They quote and cite the bike lane statute. At home, I hand wrote notes on the backs to the effect that I find their parking not only rude, but that it puts me in danger and ask them to, please, kindly alter their behavior and to think of others' safety rather than their own convenience. I've left them under wiper blades or dropped them through open windows into people's laps. Usually my pre-written note is pretty applicable due to being generic, but even if its not quite on point, I've still left them - I hope that the personal note is more 'honey' than 'vinegar', and that by not being present when they ultimately read the note there's no chance of a situation 'escalating'.
That's awesome! ...educating idiots, one at at time! :)
its sorta 'whack-a-mole' though... there'll always be another one, and it just takes 1 outta 100 to mess up a commute...
I think this has been posted before, but it's worth re-visiting.
Casey Neistat's response to getting a ticket for not riding in the bike lane:
Its a mess, but Damen does not have winter overnight parking restrictions so the city cant plow to the curb.
I'm not so sure that really helps.
Look at Milwaukee Ave on the northwest side. It has those overnight restrictions.
The parking spots are not plowed and some of it is in the bicycle lane.
who can build a better bike plow?
upstate NY story: http://www.twcnews.com/nys/central-ny/news/2015/03/4/man-builds-bik...
It could be a really good job for someone if the city was willing to pay someone to plow by bike all the bike lanes. Riding a bike SLOWLY (carefully in the car door zone of course) the person could get much closer to the cars than the truck plows can. Of course the city sending a golf cart sized plow through could get the job done very efficiently as well.
I don't know the local situation, but perhaps this could be part of a push for grant funding, an electric golf cart + plow unit.
Arturas Zuokas is my kinda guy....
