Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

I found this site through CityLab and it reminded me of this thread!

NYC's unofficial documentation of cars in bike lanes...

Chicago Carriage Cab in front of 1747 W. Roosevelt on 10/05/2016 at 9:20am.

FedEx - 1747 W. Roosevelt, 10/05/2016, 3:07pm - when I pointed out he was parked/stopped in the bike lane, his response was "Its okay."

And then this clown pulled up right behind the FedEx van - his response - "So what." 1747 W. Roosevelt Rd, 10/05/2016, 3:07pm

if reason doesn't work, and there is little/no enforcement, perhaps stickers can help.

There was a dumpster in the Dearborn bike lane in the loop this morning.

Everyday is an adventure...

I've been stopping and using my phone to post pics on Twitter. Should I get a GoPro instead? Any advice?

I have a generic goPro. I got it cheap last holiday season off amazon's deal of the day. I use it as an "insurance policy" and record all of my commute. If I am in a crash, it is likely going to be caused by a 'bad' driver, if I have video evidence of it - Hopefully it can decrease any crap. (Because I am wearing my helmet, and riding with lights on always, and the worst law I break is not coming to a complete stop at every stop sign - I want no part of the victim blaming BS.)

What I use it for on a normal day, nothing! If nothing happens, I delete the video after a week. I have kept a few close calls, I've turned in a bus driver, some screen shots with a 311 cab issues. My videos are not super exciting so no YouTube channel for me!

This looks to be about the same one I have for under 50 bucks. I think it is easier than stopping to take a picture, but I'm lazy!

Thanks. That's pretty much why I'm thinking about getting one now. I just moved my lights (front and back) to my helmet this week hoping it would make it easier for larger cars/trucks to see me, even when i'm along side them. Handlebar or helmet mounted?

I use this bar mount (for bars 30-32mm) because the bar mount that came with the camera was too small for my bars. I leave my bike parked outside downtown during work so I screw and unscrew the waterproof case/camera each ride (when I pick up my son ~5 mins I just take the camera out and leave the case screwed in).

I tried to find a helmet mount but no luck. I use a Bern helmet and couldn't find a good mount area/system. (Plus, I look around a lot! I'd have a ton of video of puppies on sidewalks in low traffic areas... Or who knows what when I am stopped at a light!)

I just looked again and this one is 35 bucks, I might get another one and have it rear facing.

I picked up one of these off ebay at a steep discount. It's a pretty nice cam, though if you really want to record audio* this might not be the best option.

*Audio is picked up--but with a handlebar mount, it mostly picks up creaks of the bicycle and whirring of the tires. When I'm stopped I can hear the complaints of the motorists just fine.
