Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

Franklin St is a bike lane from Jackson to the river. This section near Wacker is a shared bike lane. It is illegal to park in a shared bike lane.

I don't see any markings that it's a SHARED bike lane.

The sharrows were located ~50 ft south of the vehicle. The city recently restriped the lane, and haven't replaced the sharrows yet. If you browse through the hundreds of violations that I've posted here of this spot, you'll see the sharrows.

WTF. You think I'd waste my time posting hundreds of violators if they weren't actually violating the law? Give me a little f*cking credit, OK?

F*ck it. Here.

I clearly said I didn't doubt that these were technical violations, but in your pictures the violation isn't clear. It's not clear it's a shared bike lane and it's not clear that the vehicle is stopped.

You may know that the lane is a shared lane, but without markings I'm not sure how the car is supposed to know that. If you just want to be right, keep sending these unclear examples in. If you want to have an actual impact, you would do better to edit your examples to the clearest, most egregious examples.

I've posted over 1200 examples. There are plenty of clear ones. If I'm posting one, it's a violation. I've got hundreds of pics that were borderline that I let slide. Generally, I post the photo that clearly shows the license plate. Besides, how the heck is a still photo supposed to show a stopped vehicle vs. a moving one? I guess you'll simply have to look at the 500+ photos I took from the front of the vehicle.

In this particular example I don't really blame the driver. The a**hats at the city repainted the short dash lines, but never came back and repainted the sharrows. The section is an official bike lanes as documented by the city. I've reported it numerous times, but the city has yet to get their a**es out there to finish the job.
