Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

It would really help if the city would put up "No Parking - Bike Lane" signs.

Maybe paint the curbs yellow, too.

All of the above.

They know it's a bike lane. They just don't care, and the city gives them no reason to care.

Bike cops were out in force in the South Loop today...casually cycling past countless cars parked in the bike lane without even batting an eye.

I just go around them; is it really that hard?

Even bike cops can do it.

Why the f*ck should I risk my life going around them? They're illegally parked, and putting lives at risk.

Why can't they park where it's not illegal and dangerous? Even cops do it.

Everything is a risk to life and limb.

You make it sound like ducking into a lane of traffic is like jumping off a cliff.

You are awarded one gold star for hyperbole.

I'm ok with venting about it because when people block the lane it forces us to merge into traffic, putting us in more danger. Overall, parking in a bike lane also indicates a bigger problem - not really accepting bikes on the road and treating the bike lanes like a parking spot. We've all seen many cars parked in the bike lane that has ample space to park their car but chose not to. I'm not sure why it rubs you the wrong way that people come here to vent about this. At the end of the day, it does make riding more dangerous and when, on your way to work, you pass 10 cars parked in the bike lane and spend a lot of energy dealing with merging into traffic and worrying about those cars dooring you, you have every right to come to The Chainlink and vent about it.

Carry on.
