And this one.

To be fair... I don't know the make of this car.

Mercedes-Benz. CLS 500. With that attitude I'm surprised he doesn't have vanity tags.

1. My son always says if you're gonna get hit, let it be by an expensive car.  They have the best insurance.

2. This reminds me how we need an easy to use shaming system.

3. Google auto-complete knows what's what:

(sarcasm)Ohh, okay. So if I drive my rusty 18 year old, 360000.0 mile F150, I'll be viewed differently? I won't be looked upon as douche? Maybe looked on as a redneck? What about if I drive my Wrangler? It's newer than the Audi.(sarcasm)

I went through this, regarding euro sport sedans, with a guy on FGG a long time ago.

Mike, the problem isn't owning an Audi. As long as you never drive it you'll be fine. ;)

As one who owns an Audi, you hit the nail on the head.

Love this thread. It gives us a venue to make stereotypical, fact-less generalizations about others.

When I drive my beige, automatic, 4-door Honda Accord I become totally invisible, so no one is able to form any kind of impression of me. It also comes with a pair of pleated khakis and polo shirt and a map to the suburban golf club.

I wanted to chime into this discussion and denounce these pretentious statements against every car owner, but then I saw a new commercial for the 2014 Scion tC titled "King of the Coupe" and had to fuel the fire for a brief moment.

In standard auto fashion, the car is shown speeding around a city with music and narration. At one point the car approaches 3 cyclists in the road, and the narrator says "...help you avoid all of the obstacles...". The driver is shown shifting gears as he darts around the cyclists, or 'obstacles'. All of my searches for it on the internet have been unsuccessful... except for this: http://www.scion.com/blog/2013/07/02/the-2014-scion-tc-commercial/

"Scion sincerely apologizes to members of the bicycling community that might have been offended by a recent advertisement. It was certainly not our intention to do so as Scion has great respect for bicyclists. Scion is sensitive to your opinion and in response, has made the decision to remove the advertisement.

Your feedback is appreciated as it is through communications such as yours that we become aware of our customers’ expectations and reactions. It also provides us with valuable insight when developing future advertising strategies.

If you have any further questions or comments, call us toll free at 1-866-70-SCION, Monday-Friday 5am-6pm PST and Saturdays 7am-4pm PST.

Thank you for your interest in Scion."

Great stuff! I wonder who contacted them. Sorry if this was already posted elsewhere on the forums.

Regardless, some chainlinkers would still benefit from focusing their frustrations into something more positive for the community and our relationship with automobiles. The conflicts between the two aren't going away anytime soon.

That is great - kudos to Scion.

People do what they do because it benefits them.

You have two choices:

1) Make it so it doesn't benefit them. This usually involves breaking the law and generates more hatred between motorists and cyclists.

2) Take control of your feelings and your experience on the road. Expect that the majority of motorists will actively disregard you. Ride accordingly. Don't get upset when you see it, because you knew it was going to happen. If you're an aggressive biker then you can swerve around cars parked in the bike lane, and if you're not then you have to expect to make unforeseen stops as a consequence of your riding style. Either way, know what to expect, and that way you are in control of your own experience.

Judgments about types of people and types of cars are irrelevant. It's about you and whether or not you're enjoying biking. And if other people are interfering with your ability enjoy one of your passions, then you need to figure out a way to take control.

Ok, that caused coffee to come out my nose.
