You blew the red light east bound on Lawrence at Damen at 5:26 pm this evening.

There was enough time for the biker in front of me to make it half way into the intersection, northbound on Damen, before you came whizzing past my front wheel.

I yelled "You're an idiot!" at your big haired chick, self, and you looked back at me. I meant it!

I woulda testified for any of the cars, that managed to not kill you, if they had.

Keep riding like a tard!

love,

gabe

Witness bad behavior during your commute? Feel free to post. Maybe that lovely human can read it and think they are famous. Maybe you can also inspire the whole generation of kids to shower but we can start with small things.

*** UPDATE... Suppose I was descriptive in my message on Sunday but the person who called today seemed very uninterested in my complaint.  The deflection by the Cab Company was kind of annoying. Started with them saying the Driver would be pulled then they were all about saying that the cabbie was not their employee, that the cab is leased and that these complaints get filed away so when he tries to renew the lease then he may be affected. To top it off they told me that if they decide to not renew his lease he can just go down the street and sign up with another company.

If anyone has a buddy that rides in white and red lycra on a red and white bike that was talking about almost getting hit Sunday July 7 at 12:30 SB on the LFT at Montrose I recommend you let them know about the Cab number and have them register a complaint too.

To the guy who was texting while riding a Divvy bike in the Dearborn bike lane during rush hour - do you have a functioning brain? Do you have any common sense? [rhetorical question]  *headdesk*

To the tool s/b on Wells in the brown Xterra - stellar job accelerating to pass me so that you could make the turn on North rightinfrontofme, on a very green light. It must be hard to be aware of your surroundings when your head is up your ass.

On a happier note, thanks to the 3C cab driver on Dearborn that gave me space, didn't pass me for the sake of getting around me, and let me take the lane to get around delivery trucks and again at Maple to make the turn. Good Karma.

Oh mountain bike champion of the pavement on Halsted (SB) (resplendent in orange Saucony's, blue helmet, yellow roll-top backpack, and gray hardtail frame).  Despite my attempts to drive cautiously and give plenty of space to fellow riders this morning, you successively:  A) skitched off the back of my vehicle, B) rode into oncoming traffic so you could cut me off/pass me (with an open bike lane to my right), C) blew 3 red lights in a row, and nearly knocked off 3 nu-Fred's who were demonstrating restraint and commendable riding etiquette.  Cheers to the Fred's, and no boo-hoo's when you get hit by the #8 bus.

Black Lexus, SB Sheridan Rd @ Lake (Evanston) this AM... Yes, i took the lane on the S turn there, largely to prevent you from crowding me into the curb as you seemed so eager to pass me mid turn. i looked back at you to establish eye contact as i moved out with you at about 3 car lengths behind and went through the S at about 20mph, and immediately moved right and gave you back the lane. Seems you felt the need to blast your horn as you blew by... classy and so neighbourly at 630AM. Sorry if i cost you a second or two on your way to the Dempster St red light.

Were you able to accomplish that anatomically difficult task i assigned you as you blasted by?

BTW, i couldn't help but notice that I passed by you three times before South  Blvd.

Cycling in Chicagoland this weekend doesn't get much better!

;-)

To the lady that almost doored me.

Yes I scream like a wild banshee when I see a door swing wide open two bike lengths in front of me.  Getting out of your car and flapping your arms like a chicken mocking my terrified screech speaks volumes about your character.  I started at you quizzically for a few moment trying to comprehend your actions.

With my heart racing and legs visibly shaking all I could muster up was, "But Miss you almost killed me?!"

You full-heartedly and with earnest related that a cyclist would not be killed because a door hit them.  Doors at little and why should we be worried about these little things.

Against my better judgement I point out that you're illegally parked.

Again your priceless response, "And i'm sure you just stopped for that light behind you?!"

me, "But ma'am the light is green and I was just waiting at the red light.  That's why I couldn't swerve to avoid your door because all these other cars are coming and I need to use the bike lane."

her, "You are all so entitled, you think you can just yell and we'll get out of the way, do you know how many bikes I see run lights, maybe next time I will hit you with my door"

At this point she walked away leaving a very awkward looking grandparent and child still in the vehicle.

I took a few pictures of her car as I waited for my heart rate to drop under 190 bpm.

I'm going to assume this is just motherly response and somehow she thought I was going to attack her or threaten her child and as such she turn on super psycho protection mode... logic was not reaching her.

(i'm pretty sure the yellow on the curb and white hashes under the car mean "don't park here")

@Western and Augusta

god Derek I am so glad you avoided the dooring. I really feel bad she reacted and treated you in that way.

dooring is probably my #1 fear cycling in the city; and that is exactly 8 blocks from my apt. and I ride

Augusta a lot (I have mixed feelings about whether it is on my 'usually safe' list) so this hits really

close to home. I have my own theories about drivers' reactions such as you witnessed, but I will choose

to keep them to myself (but as I have shared before let's just say they involve such phrases as 'super size', 'scale tipping' and NASCAR addicted husbands and boyfriends).

OK that is an Illinois license plate but not a chicago city sticker (?). Expires 05-14. Can one of the great

many sleuths here help us know where this car may reside (not that being a suburbanite is any excuse at all, but I am always extra cautious when I see out-of-state plates).

Again - so glad you are OK and you avoided contact. Let's hope she realizes she could've been a shitload of trouble had you hit her -- I am almost tempted to print off copies of the new ordinance and hand them out (with highlighting of the $$$ amounts) to offenders I see.

take care everyone

DB

i'm sorry but I am LOL at the wording here. glad you are OK and maintained alertness and a cool head

can I steal this line from you ??? --->>.

That looks like the new style city stickers.  They got rid of the artwork after the brouhaha last year and with the transition to having city stickers expire year round.

That's a new city sticker, all right.  Terrible place to put it, though.

What's the plate number?  We should make a list of the offending plate numbers to identify repeaters...
