Are there any good bike shops in Skokie?   My future to be mother in law wants to buy a good pair around Skokie.

Also, women, are there brands you prefer?

she may have a larger selection at REI or Dick's sporting goods. Most local bike shops do not have a huge selection of clothes

if she is willing to travel to Evanston Turin would probably be the best call

Thanks. Any popular brands for women?  I have so many different types and have yet to figure out the best brand for me, hee hee.

What are her criteria?  Best shorts? Best price? Most expeditious shopping trip?

I might peruse REI and Performance's websites to get some ideas.  You can then decide what to get and where to go. REI and Performance are both in Northbrook. REI is at Willow and Waukegan and Performance is at Skokie Rd. between Dundee and Lake Cook.  Turin will cater to an elite cyclist and have very good stuff.  I am not sure what Dick's will have but there will be cycling stuff.  You can also find cycling items at LLBean in Old Orchard.  There is a smaller selection but a knowledgable staff at Amlings on Milwaukee Ave. in Niles.

As for women's specific...I guess I am the wrong guy to answer that one. :-)

I know a number of women who like Terry bike clothing - readily available online but not carried by very many shops locally.  Not cheap stuff, but very nice quality.

If she is looking for women specific cycling clothing, I recommend the Terry brand. It is pricey, but I have found the brand to fit pretty well, unlike some brands that seem design their clothing for female cyclists that are built like men with flat chests and no hips.  Not sure if Terry clothing is sold in stores, as I have ordered from them online only due to their having some nice deals when you sign up for their newsletter. http://www.terrybicycles.com/

I also like Primal which you can find at REI, but that is just because they have some nice designs.

+1 on Turin. GREAT Shop.

My $.02 on shorts :

I have used Biemme (very very good), Pearl Izumi (also great; but pricey); Sugoi (my all time favorite); but I bought 2 pair of Bontrager which I totally love. reflective strips, great fit; never stretch out, etc.

As usual, your mileage will vary

Terry is sold in a handful of local stores.  Check the Stores page on the web site for info.
