Older woman on the LFP wiped out in front of the parking lot for Castaways. No helmet and she appeared to be knocked unconscious after colliding with another bike. They have a ton of event vendors setup for the A&WS and it's mobbed over there, luckily tons of paramedics too. But damn, pretty scary...bad weekend to ride along the path. Makes me wonder how many Divvy-related accidents there will be this weekend.

Toronto's climate is very similar to ours. Except for occasional heavy snows, when they close the Bixi system for a few days for snow removal, they keep it running year round.
Well there is always that. Much like my commute out of downtown before 7:00 am, timing is everything!

I ride it almost every day on my way to work. Fortunately, my shift starts rather late, so I am on the LFT after the rush hour.

My question is if they're working on a way to rent out helmets too. Sure, helmets aren't mandatory in the city, but I've seen kids and their parents riding these on the streets in the Loop and sometimes they aren't wearing helmets at all. Other times I see people wearing their own... But how do rent helmet without the lice and cooties? Hmm..
I don't see how helmet rental could be viable. The problem with helmets is that, apparently, a hard fall without visible damage can destroy a helmet. That's why you should always replace the helmet after it has been "used" in an accident. But with a rental helmet, the rental company would simply not know whether or not it had been "used" and thus could be subject to liability if, in fact, they rented a defective helmet. That's also why used helmets (and used kid car seats) are not good purchases no matter how inexpensively priced...

Over at Monday's RedEye, Kate Bernot wrote about DIVVY's Dumbest move on two wheels. Best Bits:
Last week's "Kodak moment!" photos of Mayor Emanuel on a Divvy featured not one mayoral helmet. If you're going to stage a photo shoot, shouldn't you set an example of safe biking practices?
