9/20/12 Damen from Division to Jackson is "Rough Grooved Surface." Plan accordingly.

11th St. from State to Wabash - torn up for water main construction. Big ass mess - don't even bother trying to get through there. Use 9th St. instead. Yes, they're doing a LOT of 1 or 2 block water main projects on E-W streets in the South Loop right now.  It's not your imagination.

Agreed.

Unfortunately, this is the city picking the low hanging fruit to add to the numbers of bike lanes.  That stretch is about the easiest part of the city to ride on, and bike lanes are superfluous.

From The 606 (Bloomingdale trail report website)

Cyclists can take the sidewalk, fyi

  • The Damen Ave. viaduct will be closed on Saturday, 7/19 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. so that crews can remove the damaged parapet wall on the north side of the Bloomingdale Trail. Sidewalk access will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists (please dismount), as well as emergency vehicles. Local traffic will divert to Hoyne Ave. to the west, suggested detour for non-local traffic is Western Ave. As always, if crews finish ahead of schedule, we will reopen the street when complete. Map of the closure and suggested detours below:

Ravenswood, from Bryn Mawr northbound is finally being resurfaced.

"Yes, Virginia... There IS a Santa Claus!"

Kinzie is torn up at the LaSalle intersection, as well as at that T-bone intersection near Doughnut Vault.

IMO, worth taking it slow over the dropoffs (from the pavement onto the ripped up part), but YMMV.

Lawrence eastbound is shut down between Milwaukee and Elston(ish).   This has improved my commute.

State St. through the Loop has FINALLY been repaved. Yeah!!!

The drops are relatively big.  I was glad I was not on the skinny tires.

Main Street in Skokie has always been a desirable east-west route between Evanston and all points west. The segment  between Crawford and McCormick has been a rutted disaster for a number of years. The road is being resurfaced!!! The project http://skokie.suntimes.com/2014/08/12/final-leg-main-street-resurfa... appears to have started. The top layer of the roadway has been taken off so its both easier and harder to ride upon than before. Trucks are there and I assume we will soon see a new surface.  This segment has always been used on the Evanston  Ride of Silence route and it looks like it will be much better by the time we ride next May.

Kinzie has been resurfaced at LaSalle; still torn at the intersection a couple blocks west.

There was a dump truck in the eastbound bike lane at the intersection of Kinzie and Franklin at around 8:00.  Let's hope it is resurfaced by the time we go home.

On another note, I am back to taking Hubbard from Noble to Green, and it seems like there is a lot more traffic there in the morning between 7:30 and 8:00 than there was last spring.  Anyone know why, or is it just my imagination?

I haven't noticed more traffic, but I'm usually on Hubbard between 7:00 and 7:30. The other week I was running late and I was amazed how much traffic there was but I assumed it's always been like that after 7:30. Perhaps it's a recent development!
