Problems with U.S. Postal Service trucks parking in the Kinzie Lane

Folks,

Steven Vance, my colleague at Grid Chicago, has noticed that the USPS workers are getting in the habit of driving and parking in the new protected bike lane on Kinzie.

Read Steven's description of the problem at http://gridchicago.com.

Keep moving forward,

This problem is not limited to the USPS. I have seen other delivery vehicles parked in the bike lane on Kinzie numerous times. It would be nice to see some enforcement of the lane rules here. If drivers are allowed to flaunt the rules on Kinzie, what hope is there of getting bike lane rules enforced anywhere?

Union Station needs to be addressed as well.  Busses, shuttles, cabs, passenger cars...

I honestly think contacting the mayors office is prudent in this case. This is the new mayor's baby and I'm sure he'd be pissed to hear any kind of bad publicity from it.

I'd suggest attacking this problem on multiple fronts by contacting the mayor's office, the commanders of police districts, postal carrier supervisors, shuttle bus companies, delivery services, etc.   It helps to have as much specific info as possible.  Taking one or more clear photos that show location, vehicle #, company, etc. is extremely useful.

If the problem is with a cab, you can report this via 311.  Having the cab # and cab company name is critical to getting follow-up.

Some companies/authorities will be more responsive than others, but if they get enough complaints they will be forced to respond.
