I road this route in to work (Ravenswood to Evanston) this morning.

Very glad I saw this post. I haven't been on that trail in over a year and planned to use it tonight. Since my head is a magnet for all footballs, frisbees, badminton birdies, volleyballs, etc., I'd surely be hit by flying disc! That'd be quite a buzz kill during an early evening joy ride.

(also, grrr...those crosswalk buttons.)

Even more than bikes, what happens when a little old lady out walking her dog is hit by one of these discs?  It sounds that, like the oddball golf course in Evanston, the disc path should be isolated.  If it's dry this weekend I think I'll take a detour away from the lake for a look.

The disc golf community is aware of this problem. http://www.dgcoursereview.com/reviews.php?id=5640&mode=rev  I am an avid player.  I am thrilled that there is a local course but it is a bad idea in this location.  I think its even more dangerous when a disc goes onto McCormick and hits a car going 40 mph. I am surprised a local govermnent, Lincolnwood, installed the course.  I would have figured the course would have been nixed by their lawyers and risk managers.  If you get hit by a disc it will hurt.  I agree with James, I prefer Kedzie regardless of the course's existence. I think its faster.

Is the course finished? Will safety netting be install?

Wow....that sucks.

We rode on the trail last night after 6.  There were no disc golf community members hurling heavy objects at that time. It seems like if there were any enthusiasts using the course, you'd be able to see the players, but what happens on the weekend when the trail is more heavily populated? Do the players yell "FORE"? (Constantly?) Let's say you managed not to get hit. Running over a disc would suck.

It's hard to imagine who decided that this would be a good location for this course.

They were probably all being driven off by the clouds of gnats that seem to form (regardless of wind conditions) along the trail. :)

I wish I'd have brought glasses. It was bad.

When I got home I noticed there was a bug in the corner of my eye.  And we went out after the ride. Classy.

Ha!  I did get my daily share of protein from those damn bugs last night.  The trail seems so nice - it's really too bad about that disc course.  At first I was confused about the complaints about the signal buttons - but they are often no where near where the curb lets off smoothly.

By the sound of the folks complaining on the above-linked Disc-golf forum about this "course" they are probably staying away because this course sucks.

It's too easy to accidentally chuck a long drive into the street, if their aim is bad or the wind takes it, and perhaps cause a major property-damage/injury accident in the traffic. It's too easy to accidentally hit another path user/recreationist using the area -and there are too many of us in their way so they have to wait forever for a "clear" moment when they can hurl their missiles hundreds of feet.  And lastly it seems to be a huge bother for them to walk back a whole mile to their waiting cars in the parking lot so they can go home.

Maybe they could move this disc golf course to the lakefront path?

Chicago has had a pretty bad history with Disc Golf courses.  The first attempts (Wilmette) simply did not get used and eventually just disappear.  And, of course, Disc Golf is played by lots of people on a more informal basis by simply going out with friends and identifying targets and hazards.   (Such as we are aiming to hit the main trunk of that tree over there, the baseball diamond on the right is a water hazard and the horseshoe pits on the left is a sand trap (must throw with opposite hand).  This course, frankly, looks a bit boring and McCormick is just to much of a "threat" to the players.   This course will be unmaintained within a year and gone within 5 years.
