Anyone know the reason they put that lane on the left side?  I've never felt safe in it.  The right lane's not much better though.  I usually end up taking the right lane on Dearborn from the river to Chicago.

The Dearborn lane will include north and southbound lanes! Such great news! I ride Dearborn in the morning going north, but on my commute home I take State, which is sometimes fine, but often clogged up.

Thanks so much to you and your awesome wife.  I was also frustrated by the lack of information.  From the anouncement:

 

A two-way north-south protected bike route through the Loop on Dearborn Street from Polk Street to Kinzie Street.  The City will also extend the Kinzie bike route east to meet up with this new route.  The Dearborn bikeway will separate bicyclists from high-speed traffic and include bicycle signals to separate bicycle and motor vehicle conflicts.

 

I am particularly excited about the extension of Kinzie to Dearborn since I will then avoid Wells when I start commuting from Wicker Park in October!

Sorry, Tony, the city didn't post their release until today and I had signed off last night by the time the sun-times posted the first story.

We couldn't offer details in our supporting statement because we didn't have the exact numbers, etc. until I got a hard-copy of the release at the press conference yesterday.

We tried to say as much as we could without saying anything inaccurate...a fine line.

Does the "3 miles of west side boulevards" include Logan Blvd. under the expressway?

Don, it does not.

I asked this at the latest MBAC meeting but I'm not sure of the answer. The Dearborn lane is to be put in this year. The construction season usually goes through November. It sounded like they expect the whole installation will only take a few weeks, although since it involves special signallization, they really don't know because of lack of past experience.

Exciting! That is my usual route from the south loop into downtown for my shot out to the west loop from Madison. It can get very tight when the bus lane is full of parked taxis and such.

During Construction of the new Dearborn route I hope Harrison will be ridable again so I can make it out to the west loop.
