Locally made gifts for cyclists, peds and transit users?

I'm assembling a sustainable transportation gift guide for a local magazine. Let me know if there are any new locally made products I should include that might not be on my radar, stuff that's not already on the Grid Chicago gift guide (http://gridchicago.com/shop/), which hasn't been updated for a while.

Uh, not to nitpick, but PoCampo is not locally made anymore. I believe it now made in China.

I'm sure many components on Heritage bikes are sourced overseas, as well. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I like their bikes, and love the shop and the people there.


Speaking of locally-made goods, a wish: somebody should make saddles with Horween leather, their shop is on Elston and Ashland. And they make some of the best leather, anywhere.

But the frames are made here from American steel, which is something you can't say of very many U.S. based bike brands.

I'm curious, how do pies never bounce in a pie box?  I love the idea, and I've always wondered how to transport things like doughnuts, pies, and pizzas on a bike.  I thought of a container on the rack, but I was worried about any bouncing.  One missed pothole and your pie splatters all over the top of the container, no?

Has anyone actually used anything to transport things that have delicate tops?  I mean, you really don't want the frosting/crust all mashed.

I don't know, but they've been making leather, specifically for sporting goods, for over 100 years.

I'm not sure how expansive Horween's product line is, but the leather used in saddles is cut and tanned very differently than the leather used in bags and clothing. A tannery that makes good leather for clothing may not be set up to crank out saddles.
