How many miles is your commute? ((read the OP before responding please, hunny-bunnies))

There seem to be a lot of discussions about gear, clothing, winter riding that don't take into account the sort of commutes people have; i.e. advice that applies to someone who rides 15 miles each way may not be useful to someone who rides 3 miles.  So I thought I'd propose that people add the (one-way) distance of their daily commute, or their most typical one-way distance for regular 'utility' (rather than social/fitness/recreational) rides after their user name and see if it helps, or at least provides a little added interest...

So if I am a 13.9 mile male rider who rides a commuter setup on a hybrid made in the USA and wear cycling shorts with a golf shirt can I accept information from a female skinny jeans and bike jersey wearing 2.5 mile rider on a China made cruiser?  I'm confused.  Maybe Serge is the only person I can depend upon. He is the uber rider. What if OLB really rides 0.0 but is a font of information?  Am I ignoring a priceless portal or pertinent particulars just because OLB doesn't get in many miles?  Sorry h' should I change back my name?  Or maybe y'all shouldn't read posts by people who are prone to thread drift. :-) I guess nobody would read this.

And those of us with multiple bikes/styles can have multiple personalities.  ;)

OK, on Feb 3 we can switch to bike type, style, stem length or whatever else.

We should also add:

- What type of bike you ride (road/hybrid/upright).

- What style of rider you are (skinny jeans hipster/spandex-clad Lance wannabe/cycling chic aficionado)

- What kind of clothing you prefer (made in China/made in the USA/made anywhere in between)

That way we can add truly customized advice when people ask what to wear.

Not on the same bike.  ;)

But have you ever had multiple stems?

Yes I have. Our tandem has two stems...

Ha ha, now I understand the h' 1.0 from the other thread. I thought it was a new and improved version of Howard for the new year!

Mine is about 2.5 to 3.5 miles, depending on how far I go out of my way to avoid traffic, wind, etc.

My commute journey from my home office to my main client's location (in case the Internal Revenue Service happens to be reading this) begins with 18.2347 miles by Metra train, followed by a bracing 1.95831 mile bike ride via a Dahon folder, along a pleasant wooded bike trail and then a stupidly high speed two-lane highway with no bike lanes or shoulders for most of its distance.

The cycling portion of my trip can be expressed thusly:

3.1516 kilometers

3151.6 meters

10,339.9 feet

124,079 inches

28.7219 standard American football fields

63.039 Olympic swimming pool lengths

3.33124e-13 light years

223.49977272727273 Noah's Arks (allowing for a 300 cubit boat length, cubit=18")

(thank you "Google Maps Labs Distance Measurement Tool" for all this useless information!)

Great idea, h'!

I changed my profile to 0.1 so I don't feel like a zero.

0.1 miles = 160,934.4 millimeters  That sounds impressive.

Maybe the new and improved Chainlink will let us easily convey all of this information and then we can easily ignore one another if the posting person does not fit the right mold.  Or not.  I ride an upright hybrid very slowly, but I know I have learned a lot from you fast road bike riders who don't even know you have passed me! :D  I think I will leave my mileage in my name for a while.

We should also include where we ride, as well, since the conditions may be more start-stop and the weather/wind will vary as well.  Maybe allow those awful signatures that make other forums an exercise in misery to read.

Hmmm, I'm a software geek, so when I'd read h' 1.0, I first assumed he was referring to release 1.0. Everything prior to that was pre-release. Now, major releases generally have a lot of cool new features but tend to be buggy. I'm gonna wait till h' 3.1.4159 (or higher) is available.

You should wait until version 3.14...... ("pye" - didn't want to finish that one...not that we could), and as I typed I noticed you were on your way there. Good one. LMAO !!!)

Respectfully,

Yup, all ready to be unleashed to the world.
