How many miles is your commute? ((read the OP before responding please, hunny-bunnies))

There seem to be a lot of discussions about gear, clothing, winter riding that don't take into account the sort of commutes people have; i.e. advice that applies to someone who rides 15 miles each way may not be useful to someone who rides 3 miles.  So I thought I'd propose that people add the (one-way) distance of their daily commute, or their most typical one-way distance for regular 'utility' (rather than social/fitness/recreational) rides after their user name and see if it helps, or at least provides a little added interest...

Generally from 12 to 3 mi, varies seasonally and by how late i'm running in the AM. Rode in about 98% of my workdays in '12.

Done, great idea!

My euro style  alter ego is 23.166. He always feels like he's riding fast but we seem to go about the same speed.

Did this help everyone?

18.4 mi round trip to/from work, Mon-Fri.

I should probably squeeze in another mile and a half by using another route, but I will change it when the weather gets back to being a bit nicer.

This is my first winter riding, so I will be gentle with myself. LOL !

I hope that the next step in this isn't using 12 digit grids for start and stop points? That would be considerably more accurate. LMBO !!

14.5 miles one-way from my home in the west loop up to my job in evanston.

When you express it in kilometers, it looks a lot more impressive.

Then you're going to love "meters."

None of you beat Serge's chainlinks!

Or a popular Canadian destination.  ;)

Done.

11 to 12 miles depending on my route.

What about a fair weather recreational/casual cyclist like me? 0.0? CC? No designation?

I don't have much input for many of the commuting threads, so I wouldn't be posting much in those anyway.

We should also add:

- What type of bike you ride (road/hybrid/upright).

- What style of rider you are (skinny jeans hipster/spandex-clad Lance wannabe/cycling chic aficionado)

- What kind of clothing you prefer (made in China/made in the USA/made anywhere in between)

That way we can add truly customized advice when people ask what to wear.

We should also include where we ride, as well, since the conditions may be more start-stop and the weather/wind will vary as well.  Maybe allow those awful signatures that make other forums an exercise in misery to read.
