The 17-year-old was riding north in the southbound lanes when he collided with a southbound Toyota Solara, police said. He was taken to a hospital in fair condition.

A teenage boy was hit by a car Thursday while riding a bicycle on Lake Shore Drive in Lincoln Park on the North Side.

The 17-year-old was riding the bike north in the southbound lanes about 11:30 p.m. when he collided with a southbound Toyota Solara in the 1700 block of North Lake Shore Drive, Chicago police said.

The teen was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition, according to police. He was issued a citation for riding a bicycle on Lake Shore.

The 19-year-old man driving the Toyota stayed at the scene and was not injured, police said. he was ticketed for not having car insurance.

The crash remains under investigation by Area Three detectives.

The knucklehead on the bicycle should have also been ticketed for riding on the wrong side of the street and causing the collision.

The knuckleheads who teach their kids to ride into traffic are the real danger.

i was once told by a Winnetka cop to do that, FFS.

Yeah, I saw a couple of uniformed cops riding against traffic while on thejob.

I brought up the need to cover bicycles in traffic while in "traffic school" a few years ago and it was nothing but crickets.

Mix modality transportation simply doesn't work out everywhere, as the semi-truck prohibition on LSD likewise underscores.  The good news if any is it wasn't a collision with a 15 ton city bus.  Complicating some of this, in my opinion, is that the signs indicating that bicycles and trucks aren't allowed on LSD are inadequate.
