Officers cited the driver for failing to stop at a stop sign and driving on an expired license without insurance, police said.
1. Runs a stop sign
2. Expired License
3. No required insurance
4. Kills a bicyclist
What will be the consequences to the driver?
1 through 3 -- he will plead to one or two of them and be fined.
4 -- nothing, just an unfortunate accident.
You'd think that driving on an expired license with no insurance and then running a stop sign would constitute “willful or wanton” disregard for the safety of other drivers and lead to a charge of reckless driving, boosted from a misdemeanor to a felony because of the great bodily harm caused to the victim. But I guess not.
