Are any local Chainlinkers thinking of getting a membership?

I occasionally find myself on the bus where "the last mile" would require changing buses with all the waiting involved.  I am thinking this may be useful for situations like that.

Any thoughts?

Excited to see it getting started.  I'm a little confused on the charging:

"Bike-sharing memberships are scheduled to go on sale in mid-May, officials said. Yearly memberships will cost $75, and daily passes will be sold for $7. Both will allow for unlimited trips up to 30 minutes each. Hourly rental fees will apply after the initial 30 minutes."

Unlimited trips up to 30 minutes each?  What's that?

I can think of plenty of "last mile" situations and downtown/near-downtown errands that would be easier with bike share. I'll definitely be getting a membership.

It means that any trip up to 30 minutes incurs no additional cost on top of the membership fee.  You can take as many of those less-than-30-minute trips as you want with no additional costs.

I think that the whole system is designed around increasing short trips. From the bike design (slow but comfortable), to the locations of the stations themselves (less than a mile between stations).

This is not a bike you want to ride to the botanic garden for a day-trip.

Is it known yet, whether the membership is tied to a person? Mrs. Duppie and I share credit cards. Could we both use it on one membership (not simultaneously of course)?

nice to see this finally get off the ground

Definitely getting a membership. I expect to use it primarily as a "last mile" for 'L' trips. Living off of the Blue Line, there are large parts of downtown that'll be much easier to get to...

I'll definitely be getting a membership. There are plenty of times where I want to bike to work in the morning, but need to catch a train to the 'burbs or wherever in the afternoon. Plus, rides to the Blue Line to the airport will be better than catching a Belmont bus.

"Divvy", though? I don't get the name. Can anyone explain it to me?

div·vy
(dv) Slang

tr.v. div·vied, div·vy·ing, div·vies
To divide. Often used with up: divvied up the loot.
n. pl. div·vies
A share or portion.

It means "to divide or share." You've got a good vocabulary Adam, so I'm guessing if this confused you it will stump a lot of Chicagoans.

Thanks Anne
