I recently noticed an alarming sign on the Cherry Avenue Bridge, an old train facility that the city recently converted into a bik/ped bridge, warning that there is still live train traffic on the route. Really? I contacted the Chicago Department of Transportation to get the skinny:

That is a pretty frightening sign, luckily the train is limited and very slow at least. Very informative article, btw. I thought at first it was a commuter train route from the title of the post LOL...that would be scary!
Yes, getting hit by a Metra train would be no joke. Remember their slogan: look, listen and live!
The language of the sign may be overly alarming but I can't think of a good alternative. Maybe "Yield to (5 MPH) Trains"?
I think the sign serves its purpose without being overly alarming.
BTW, good reminder about caution at Metra crossings. It seems like I hear about a grade crossing accident on a Metra line at least once or twice a month, whether it's a pedestrian, cyclist or car. The lines with multiple tracks and mixed usage (such as BNSF and UP-NW) are the most dangerous, because you may see a stopped train, but there may be an express or freight train approaching on the track behind it.
