On the evening of May 29, Cann, 26, was riding from work at the nearby Groupon offices when motorist Ryne San Hamel, 28, struck him at the intersection of Clybourn and Larabee in Old Town. San Hamel was charged with reckless homicide, aggravated DUI, misdemeanor DUI, reckless driving, and failure to stay in the lane.

The case’s latest status hearing took place on Friday, April 11th at the Cook County Courthouse, 26th and California, with about 20 Cann family and supporters in attendance, according to Kate Conway, an attorney for the family. The State’s Attorney’s office had expects that tests on San Hamel’s car and analysis of other evidence for reconstructing the events of the crash would be completed by then. However, a brake expert is currently examining the car to determine what speed it was going and what, if any, braking occurred.

San Hamel’s attorney filed a motion requesting documents related to the blood test on the driver that was performed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, perhaps in an attempt to invalidate the test results, Conway said. That evidence will first go to Judge William Hooks, who will determine whether it is admissible in the case, according to victim advocate Sharon Johnson from the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists.

“To me that seems like a time extension tactic by the defense,” Johnson said. “My guess is that it won’t reveal anything, but it will make the case longer, which is hard on the victim’s family.” The next hearing for the criminal case was set for May 23.

In March, the Cann family filed a wrongful death suit against San Hamel and his business, AllYouCanDrink.com, a bar promotions website. The defense has not yet responded to the complaint. The initial hearing is scheduled for June 4.

(Kudos and thanks to John Greenfield for this report!)

Just a reminder,

The next hearing related to Bobby’s crash is a week from Friday, on Friday, May 23rd, at 10:00 a.m. in COURTROOM 301.

If you are planning or able to attend please let me know. Remember that cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed so leave them at home or securely stowed out of sight in your car if you drive to the hearing. Also give yourself a good 30 minutes to get through security.

Thank you again for your efforts to advocate on Bobby’s behalf and please let me know if you have any questions.

Was anyone who's part of this discussion there today?  Did anyone go?  Was there anything to report?

Yes, there was a good turnout at today's hearing, over which a substitute judge presided. of course they are still in the discovery phase.

There was not a definite date set for the next hearing, so Jason Jenkins from Active Trans will post that when it's for sure. Please, try to come out for these hearings, friends, especially if you are interested in the case!

Yesterday, May 29th, was one year after Bobby Cann was killed.

Just so we don't forget...

In an email on May 28th Jason posted the next date as June 27th - but didn't note a time or a courtroom; does anyone have any more information?

TODAY!!!

http://www.thechainlink.org/events/ryne-sanhamel-hearing

The date has been posted, but nobody has posted the TIME or LOCATION of the hearing.  Maybe it's a closed hearing, not open to the public but only open to participants.

It appears that the interest in the killing of Bobby Cann has died out from discussion.  At least it lasted more that a year after his killing.

No time or location was posted for the June 27th hearing.

No results of report on that hearing was distributed.

No posting of any future hearing was made available.

Kudos to those who volunteered to be Courtroom Advocates in this process.  It's too bad they weren't permitted to give better reports on the ongoing hearings.

Maybe this case has been settled?  Does anyone have any more recent news?  Does this discussion just simply end in silence?

The next scheduled court date for Ryne Sanhamel is on September 4th, 2014 at 10:00 AM in Room 301.

I got this information from the automated phone number 877-846-3445 but I had to enter his name as the previously posted IR number didn't work.  It listed the court number as 13CR1355001.

Apparently interest is being lost on this case because no further information is forthcoming from the ATA or anyone else. The delay between June and September seems like a long time.  Maybe this is a deliberate attempt to keep dragging this out, hoping that everyone will just forget about it or report about it or keep discussing it.

Sadly, I think you might be right, Bob.  Maybe it's time to explore an additional venue to spread the word?

If you don't want to listen to the "whining" there are instructions on the bottom of the email to let you unsubscribe to the discussion.

I thought this was the place for "Bobby Cann Courtroom Updates"; at least that's what the subject line indicates.  If someone else is actually doing something but not informing the rest of us what they're doing they should let us know they're not going to continue posting.

Unsubscribe, don't listen to us whine.  We're just looking for input from someone who's involved.  Apparently you aren't, because you haven't posted anything useful or informative. I did post the information I got from the phone call I made.

If that's what you think needs to happen, than just do it rather than make the rest of us listen to you whine about what you think someone else should be doing that you (erroneously) think they're not.

Thank you for posting the update.
