who would participate in a "Black Friday Ride"? Perhaps we can make it an annual event!  Any thoughts on this?

I think that's an excellent idea. I was thinking the same thing with the REI campaign to close for Black Friday. Perhaps a ride up to Botanical Gardens?

I'd be down, but I think I'll be out of town.  Also, wouldn't Critical Mass be that same day?

What about the Santa Rampage ride?  When is the held?  Is it still happening?

Well, actually my first ride for my brand new bicycling club is Black Friday from 11am to 2pm.  I am going to canvas local bike shops and see what kind of sponsorship (or coupons) I can get.  Some people will buy cars and electronics; I am going to buy a bike.  My ride, our anniversary, will be an annual event. Since REI parking lots will be empty, how about a ride from each REI shop?

The Halsted store is now across the street from a really big shopping mall that I guarantee will NOT be closed. :-)

That's not a terrible idea.  Probably about 80 miles RT.  Off hand I think you'd be seeing quite  a bit of the Salt Creek Trail.
