I've been pretty disillusioned lately with both our municipal and state government authorities but this helps a little, anyway....

Now I can understand the sentiment of one dissenter who demanded blueberry pie. Some might accuse me of blasphemy but I actually like sweet potato pie even more than pumpkin pie. Then of course, you can never go wrong with traditional apple pie, but lemon meringue is pretty good, too. Or how about banana or coconut cream, or....

Now, when any major legislation is passed, typically there is a signing ceremony. In this case, I think a pie in the face ceremony would be more fitting. Yes, it's a horrible waste of perfectly good pumpkin pies, but at a minimum, Bruce Rauner, Michael Madigan and Rahm Emanuel should be present as recipients of the honor, attired in their best suits with full media coverage. In the best interest of the people of this fair state, it's the right thing to do.

Rhubarb - Raspberry Pie would be a more appropriate pie for this state.

Mmmm! Now I'm hungry. I think I'll have a snack and a drink!

Now back to the thread, Illinois produces enough apples and peaches that are tasty for pies! Yum!
Ugh! Pumpkin.

When in doubt, I can always rely upon the sagacious guidance of the grand master Foghorn Leghorn.

Illinois is the number one pumpkin producer in the US. In fact, we produce almost 50% of the pumpkins. I suspect that this is why it was voted the official pie, not anything to do with taste preferences.

Well over 500 million pounds in 2013. Yet, according to this link, pumpkins aren't even in the top ten list of cash crops grown in this state.
