"With all the stolen bike posts lately (and no one thinking "I wonder if there's something under Useful Links for this."), I think it's well past time to make a sticky about the Stolen Bike Registry"

I sit in front of my keyboard before you a chastened man. I took a small detour yesterday to stop at a friend's place to pick up a water bottle cage and some clamps. After chatting awhile, I was on my way. I turned off Milwaukee onto California. Off to the right, I saw what looked vaguely like my bike. I thought, "Nah, that can't be it," but as I drew closer it looked more like it. I turned around and approached. Sure enough, there was my crappy old Schwinn, cable locked to a parking meter:

My airhead son simply couldn't remember where he'd left it. When I first heard of the "theft" I had this little voice in the back of my head... But I ignored it and took Joe's words at face value. As you can see, it's not at all properly locked. Hopefully Joe gets his butt over there before it really disappears...

My apologies to folks here, and to all the true and honest metal scrappers all over our fair city. With egg on my face, I remain...

Where is our sunshine?!  It's July.  Oh well, I guess we can make the most of it.

Hey friends,

2 stolen bikes this AM to look out for. Both are 2013 Cannondale Synapse 5s - 54cm, one women's (matte gray and blue) and one men's (silver, red, black). Thief was able to gain entry to our enclosed back porch by a window about 8' off the ground at some point overnight.

Stolen bike in Evanston on the NU campus--quad behind Cahn Auditorium.  Between 4:45 and 11:30 p.m. today (8/13--I guess that's yesterday by now).  Gray Trek 7100 from 2005.  Serial #C65JN357.  There's a registration number on it also, and it's either 796428 or 51959 (I think).  It has a rack on the back of it, a red flasher on the seat post, and a light in the front.  Not sure what other details would be useful.  It's been reported to NU campus police so if you have any info, let me or them know.  Thanks for any help!

Had my Fuji Newest 3.0 stolen from my back yard within the last day and a half - sometime since 8/15. Lincoln Square area. Here's a pic. I miss her. The seat is now black and the front tire is different bc I just replaced it after it was stolen about 3 weeks ago. I will update w the serial #

At least don't get caught doing so.

My son's bike was stolen this evening while he was in work to pick up his paycheck.
