The Chainlink

Hey all,

I'm trying to find some bar end shifters for my bike. Mid- 80's trek, will be replacing the downtube shifters. I have a 6 speed rear, so i dont think i can get away with buying new bar ends since they are all made for indexed 8/9/10 speeds. If anyone has a set of friction shifters, or can tell me if there is a way to apply indexed shifters to my bike (without reconfiguring my entire rear end) i'd love to hear about it!

Thanks
G

Also, I forgot to mention, I will pay up to $50 for the shifters, depending on condition. you can contact me directly at GarrettTV@gmail.com.
Velo Orange has some nice Diacompe BE shifters if you are looking for quality.
PD, thanks. You have come through once again.

love that VO stuff, have had good experiences with them (the vendor, not the shifters, though if they're offering 'em, bet they're fine)

most Shimano bar-ends have encountered can be "flipped" from indexed to friction, believe this may still be the case with newer ones, so if you're not wedded to indexing, that may open up your options, especially with used bar-ends

get the cable stops along with the shifters, they bolt up to the downtube shifter mounts, some have barrel adjusters, too

on a newer note, these will be spendy, but interesting to see R2C (return to center) on 'em...

i have a pair of almost new cable stops that bolt to where your downtube shifters used to be. these are the nice ones from rivendell and have barrel adjusters. i had them on my surly for 2 weeks before i switched from sti's to downtube shifters... i'll be out of town until friday but send me a pm if you're interested.

I'll be in to reconfigure your entire rear end later.
