ok quick and dirty, tell me how to get from the north end of the lfp to downtown evanston

im thinking about doing a biggish ride next sat am which involves me riding to evanston from here in hammond. dont ask me why, cause it doesnt matter..

ive been plotting my course on bikely and i got to the end of the lfp, basically im seeing myself going against traffic on ardmore then heading north on kenmore into loyola, but then im stuck, should i basically shoot north on sheridan after that?

any quick simple help would be frikkin awesome.

and thanks in advance.

No, stay off of Sheridan.
Ardmore is two-way for bikes-- there's a signed on-street route that will take you north. Gimme a minute to track it down. You basically want to angle west to Custer, which is in line with Damen and also downtown Evanston.

ok thanks. i remember a whole shitton of talk about how to get around there on the CCM list a few years ago, but i cant remember and i dont really have the wherewithall to search those archives-even with em on my hard drive.
CLARK STREET NORTH! DONE!

Not sure if that's dirty enough for you, but it's quick.

it seems simple enough, but getting there from lfp involves me riding down devon no?
isnt that scary or something?

cars really dont phase me much when im riding anyway..

thanks howard, ive ridden that tack a few times, i just cant seem to remember it all..
Ok, the north end of the LFP dumps you off at Ardmore.

Ardmore across Sheridan, right on Kenmore
Kenmore, left on Granville
Granville, right on Clark
Clark becomes Chicago Ave at Howard, puts you right in DT Evanston

thanks guys, this is my tentative route, i clicked the link, and it reminded me of the bike map i have in my bag (DOH)
I prefer

Ardmore
Right on Kenmore
Left on Granville
Right on Glenwood
Left on Arthur
Immediate right on Greenview
Left on Pratt
Immediate right on Ashland
Right on Rogers Ave
Left at Sheridan Rd.
Stay right on Sheridan and get on sidewalk ASAP
Right at Sheridan Square
Get back on street
Follow the bend to Keeney St
Right at Sheridan RD
Pass Clark Square Park
Continue straight through gate on sidewalk to Edgemore Ct, bypassing the bend on Sheridan to Main St.
Continue north on Lake Shore Drive/Evanston Lake Front Path to Northwestern....
If that's where you're headed....

I'm not fond of Clark St. Quite unpleasant, IMHO.

I would but most local codes prohibit full frontal nudity.

Also have a look at the City of Evanston's bike map:

Sheridan will be fine for a short fast ride on Saturday morning.
Clark St. from Rogers Park downtown and back is my daily commute, and it's mostly fine. the section between Hollywood and Devon is not bike friendly despite it being a posted trail. Glenwood is good for that. Kenmore north and it's southbound sister Winthrop are perfect, so stick with that. My only mod would be to roll through Granville and take a left on Rosemont instead. It's One Way the wrong way, but only for two blocks and it's much quieter than the car-centric Granville. Once you're past Broadway, head north on Glenwood until you're past Devon, from there you can fade West on any street you like and pick up Clark on in to Evanston. After Howard I've got no advice. Might be dragons up there for all I know...
Agreed! I commuted to Evanston on Clark St. for an entire summer and it was delightful, fast, and dirty.
