Lets come up with some other trips and get a good camping season in!

Any ideas for next month?

Past post:

I figure, let's get planning...the new year is almost here.

I'd like to setup an easy one for the first time. This way, you can still go even if you're not interested in riding the whole way there.

Illinois State Beach Park

Second weekend of April 2015, 9th - 14th. The average temp for 2014 was 59 degrees.
The great thing about ISBP is you can ride the Metra to Zion for $7.25 each way, or a weekend pass for $7. After that the site is only about two miles. Theres a grocery store about a mile away. Kenosha is about 26m round trip. It's a good place to camp out.

I like your tag of "bug".

Dang. Gotta fix that! I forgot about the quotes on tags...but now I feel obligated to leave in bug....

It's been quite a while since I last joined you all for a camping trip, let alone to Illinois Beach State Park.  If I can get my bike and gear ready in time, I might go.

Look forward to seeing you out at least once at a camp site. As for getting your gear/bike ready, you still have a few more days. :)

I like the sound of this, but don't forget that the Cook County Forest Preserve is opening up 5 new camping sites in 2015!

Hmmm..... we'd be interested. FWIW, the ride isn't too bad, although we've only done it once:

Got the new tent yesterday...it's perfect. New sleeping bag last week.

These sales are killing me...but really improving my gear.

Looking at the website and PDF I don't see an obvious list of the (proposed) locations of these campsites.  Am I missing it?

Hi T.C.,

Half way down the page:

Construction Updates

November 13, 2014:

Five camp projects are under construction and three projects—Camp Shabbona (seasonal), Camp Reinberg and Camp Sullivan Group—are expected to be completed in early 2015. Camp Dan Beard, Camp Sullivan Family and Camp Bullfrog/Maple Lake Boathouse are expected open in the spring of 2015. Track progress on our camp construction and other county-wide projects at fpdcc.com/improvements.

Also, just noticed that they added a link to sing up to be notified when permits become available!

Jaik,

Thanks for creating the event - I'm tentative, my daughter's birthday is that week (not the camping type) so I need to iron out some other plans first. I may just S24O in.

Andy,

I know that most won't be able to stay the entire length. I'm leaving it open for anyone who wants to drop in like you. Hope your daughter has a great birthday!

Thanks, Andy.

All the under construction vs. existing and family vs. group distinctions were kinda confusing.
