The Lakefront trail is both exhilarating and terrifying.

There were 10 people I crossed paths with (Hyde Park to downtown), so on one hand its the empty LFT that you dream about. On the other hand it's darkness provides the wipe out potential that a no-streetlight path provides for.

Snuck out for a nice 45mi ride at 3:50am when it was still 59F outside.  Looking out the window of my office now, I'm thinking I might have gotten away with something on that one.    So long summer!

It was fine around 8-9 this morning on my ride in.  Going home in an hour or so not so much.

Quite a few people on bikes this morning, absolutely nobody on the way back on LFB (except some joggers in shorts and blue lips)

Yes, not to be overly wordy about it: It hurt.  In a while it will be colder and my co-workers will be amazed that I'm riding but it takes a while for the system to get acclimated.

I rode! Commuted from the loop to Ravenswood at 10:30pm. Counted 10 other people biking between the loop and home. Actually a pretty nice night, if you have the right gear! And watch out for that wind!!

Well let's consider. Two days ago it was almost 60 degrees. Today it was freezing but at least there was no wind and the lake front trail was very clear of both congestion and obstacles of any kind. (No ice yet at the Oak Street bend.) I'll take it! If only it could stay this way until spring.

I'd completely forgotten how nice it is to have the LFP to yourself in the morning. Coming home in the dark, it can be a bit lonely, but this morning was incredibly pleasant.

A bit lonely, but no shoalers this morning to deal with.

A couple of other cyclists along the route, but was pleasant. Even a bus driver motioned to me to go ahead when we were both stopped at the light.

My third winter, too, and it was a really good ride this morning.  I saw ice on Hubbard.  But it did not make me happy. Ice should stay in my freezer.

My third winter in, I was reminded how much I love riding in cold weather this morning. I saw ice on Damen! Like what happens to water in my freezer, but on the street! Woo!

I know, right?

Global warming MY ASS. If you needed any proof that this "theory" is wrong, just step outside...
