With the new threat started by Rob on the main page, and pass discussions had I've been thinking about corking.. In your opinion, better done on or off bike?

Personally I think it is better done off bike.. Weather it be to put the kickstand down and leave your bike in front of the cars or walk your bike up to questioning motorists of what is going on, the same image always appears in my head(which I wish upon noone)of an angry motorist pressing the gas leaving you no out stuck on your bike in front of them.

It's been my experience with Chicago rides that this hasn't been an issue in the past, but it never hurts to be aware I guess. Or maybe Youtube has rotted my brain of the possibilities.

thought, opinions?

The only time I even bother to cork is when it's obvious someone is creeping into the Mass (lookin for the gap they think is big enough to get through). Get off the bike. Snap a pic of the license plate and chill. I don't do the make nicey nice route if it's obvious that it's not going that way. I will thank them for waiting when I leave but that is meaningless if it's an angry cork already.
I'm of the opinion that it should be done with some info and a smile. I've had some positive responses to this, especially when they see other riders coming by and yelling thank you; not only does it sooth the driver, but it also shows that should the driver do something stupid, that there is back-up of hundreds.

Now I have seen it go the other way where drivers start pushing over people on bikes. It's not pleasant to witness and thankfully I've only seen it twice. In both instances, ther person had JUST pulled up to the Mass. In those situations, it was the people on thier bikes that had the damage doen to thier rides.

The short answer: Be nice, but be ready to move.
