Harvard, IL Stone Mill Trail, Long Prairie Trail, and Stone Bridge Trail

I took the Metra up to Harvard, IL today and road the three trails listed in the subject line.

All three trails were if pretty good condition. Initially there was some water on the trail just outside of town, but I road slowly through it and was fine.

There are some spots on the paved Long Prairie Trail that could use some maintenance, but were still passable.

All the rest of the paths were in very good condition.

The Stone Mill Trail just outside of Harvard ends and requires you to ride on Route 173 for about 2 miles. Initially there is a hard shoulder to ride. The the should turns soft and you must take part of the lane, but people passed safely.

It is my understanding they will eventually extend the Stone Mill Trail to the Long Prairie Trail.

You can see pictures and the metrics from my ride at the following link:

There were about 7 other cyclists that were on the train going out and about the same going back, which was cool that the conductor had us all on the same car. This was the first time I took my bicycle on the Metra and I was happy with the experience.

Thanks for posting this! I've been curious about these trails, nice to see the pictures and hear about the current conditions.

Great information--thanks!!

You can also leave the trail and ride across northern Rockford via Rock Cut State Park and pick up their suprisingly nice Lakefront Path
