Lots of things to note-

It's impossible to bike to O'Hare (joke).

No one is biking to the end of Navy Pier.

The Southside???

Damen is a horrifying North/South route but Halsted is worse.

Pretty interesting. I live off of Ravenswood and I am surprised it is so heavily traveled, to be honest. I live on it and I go out of my way to not ride it (it's in such bad shape.)

There's quite a few rides that use ravenswood to get up to ridge and then over to howard/evanston.  However, the heatmap is biased towards strava users which tend to be people using power meters and doing training rides so I'd expect the roads that show up as being used the most to be a bit skewed.

Strava's an amazing system, logs something like a million rides a week.

It's a cool map, but the Strava phone app is lacking features, so I choose not to use it.

Right you are. I usually can't go a day in the spring/summer/fall without seeing riders in team kits fly by. I suppose if it's the path of least resistance, you'll use it.

I like the galaxy of illumination outside SRAM's headquarters

Had no idea they were there. That's actually right next to my favorite segment, Halsted Bridge to Cybourn.

OK, now I had a weird moment. I didn't know SRAM was originally Grip Shift. My brother was an engineer at Grip Shift in the 90's for a short time. That shop was on West Hubbard or that area. Stripped down a Motobecane Super Mirage for my messenger bike there.

I feel like it really shows that the east-west streets are ALL just ok. There is no particular east-west that is particularly "hot" - to me this shows there isn't a route on which many cyclists feel comfortable.
