help (no bike content)

long story short :

peggy's dog (Tyrone) the huge 11 year old Norweigian Elkhound had a seizure in

HER BOSSES VAN (he is away in Canada skiing)

normally - he has these when we are around and we handle it via a drill

(cottage cheese, milk, sour cream, get him down and force feed him and hold

his mouth open and try to relax him without doing damage (once he fell down two

flights of stairs)

however in this case - he basically emptied all his bowels (I know , not sure

how to say it) and went wild all over the van (it is set up for construction projects,

so no passenger seats but lots of carpeting all over the back to protect the work projects (soft metals, etc.). so he basically 'tracked' it all over the floor and carpted areas. probably the front seat too (i have not seen (nor smelled) it yet. thank god for these frigid temps; in the summer time I would say get a new van.

any tips on how to clean this (and NO we do not have access to an indoor garage.

I am thinking a steam cleaner, face mask and gloves. then put a space heater and

deodorizers in to rid the van of the smell ?

Dan, any way to pull the carpet out of the van?  It would have to be easier to clean.

You might want to talk to the vet's office or your favorite pet store for clean up suggestions.  The space heater will help dry it out, of course, but most things that are called deodorizers really only cover up odors temporarily.

After much experience cleaning poop out of upholstery:

thaw car (heaters, public garage...?) to thaw the poop

remove solids, using paint scraper and paper towels etc

mix plenty of Bac Out (whole foods) or Nature's Miracle (pet store) or similar enzymatic cleaner, a little dish detergent, and lots of very warm water and inundate the soiled areas, scrub with scrub brush or rag

Use a wet vac to suck all the liquid away pressing hard to squeeze it out of anything padded (long extension cord from your house?) 

repeat until clean. The bacout/miracle enzyme will usually clear any residual odor pretty well

don't think a steam cleaner will do as well

Agree with Lisa Curcio 4.1 mi that it's easier if the carpet is removed and the pet store idea.

My 2 scents worth (bad pun).

When removing vomit or loose poop (or smeared poop) I prefer if possible to let it dry so it scrapes off as a solid and minimizes penetration into the fabric.  Then i would use a Resolve solution to clean, wet vac it up, followed by Natures miracle.  I'd have to reread the label but I think you have to let natures miracle set a wile for the enzymes to work.
